If you are playing guitar just put the microphone near the hand that you are making the chords, it will listen more clear. I used like that or 1.5 ft distance from the my guitar hole. for the voice even more far from my mouth. I use garage band to record, so i plug it and use headphone to listen me at the same time as playing; just ajust your distance in order to get the perfect balance between your voice and your guitar.
