Works great in the desert sun….not tested in the rain yet.
I used this for the first time in the morning during the summer morning heat, (90’s), to see how well it works for sun and UV protection, and because I needed to get something done within walking distance.I must say I’m very pleased with it.It’s large enough to cover most all of me, at almost any angle, (I’m petite), but not so large that it’s too difficult to handle. It’s easy to carry with it’s special cover, because it has a looping cloth cord that fits neatly over the shoulder. It’s relatively easy to handle, (once I got used to how it works), sturdy, well made, and not too heavy. It prevents the direct sun’s heat from penetrating thru the umbrella, (which my last smaller white “U V protected” flimsy umbrella did not), and now it’s like walking in a shaded area instead of directly under the sun. (Admittedly though, a shady tree beats everything during the summertime). One might want to make some adjustments, however, for walking in a crowd or near others, because it seems a good many folks just aren’t used to working their way around people using a large umbrella, here in Los Angeles.

Well made but hefty
I have a sun allergy and I love this umbrella. It literally feels cooler underneath because it blocks out so much of the sun. The dimensions are also helpful as it gives really good body coverage. My only partial complaint is that it is a bit hefty and awkward to carry when you are trying to balance the umbrella while carrying other things, but I prefer hefty and well-made over cheap and light, so still 5 stars all around from me.

A must have!
I have very fair and sensitive skin. Sitting out in the sun isn’t something that I can comfortably do. This umbrella is large and gives me the protection I need. It keeps away the UV rays and keeps me about 5-10 degrees cooler on hot days.

Decent against Wind and Sun? Check the Tag
I bought this use on my hour-ish walk home to stave off the sun (heat and UV rays). It's a good size umbrella so it's easy to keep my upper body under the shade without having to mind my hands. The shaft of the umbrella is thicker than most so it isn't bad gripping it when I need to hold it by the shaft rather than the handle.I've been walking in winds of 5~12mph (according to weather forecast) and it's holding up. Even with head wind and the umbrella resting on my shoulder, it doesn't feel like it'll flip. You feel the pull, but the J hook helps you keep a good grip. The bag it comes with is fine? I have mixed feelings about the the fact it has a hole at the bottom. Upside, I don't have to worry about the umbrella poking and wearing through the fabric. Downside, if I do put the umbrella in the bag to prevent it from getting other things wet, it'll drip through.I read one of the reviews mention the tag warning saying the umbrella should be stored in a cool, dark place and it's true, which would make it pointless to use as a sun umbrella, but I figure this is to prevent people from suing them when the coating/material fades eventually as all things will under the sun.The umbrella opens smoothly, but getting it to snap close can be a bit harder. No big deal, but I almost missed it a couple times so I'm just pointing it out. I do prefer it being a manual closing umbrella than a automatic open and close because I have accidentally pressed the button while using it. I'm sure I would have closed it on myself if it was an auto-close umbrella. Some people mention it can be used as a walking stick and I don't really agree. The shaft is sturdy so you probably can use it if you don't need to rely heavily on it, BUT the end is smooth so it doesn't have much traction. If you use it to walk on smooth surfaces, it can slip under you.It does have a smell (some people describe it as fishy). I think it got better with use/airing it out. My didn't smell tok strongly, but I'm sure there are people who are more sensitive to the smell. For my purposes it's great and holds up. Haven't used it in the rain yet, but I don't really see a reason why it should have problems in that regards.

Great product!
I live in a very hot climate with alabaster skin. This thing saved me! The difference in temperature is very noticeable under the umbrella. After slathering up with spf 50, my skin will still turn cherry red, but from the heat not burnt from the sun. With regular umbrellas, I would still get a sunburn along with the cherry red skin, even with the spf 50 sunblock. Highly recommend!

Great sun shade
Blocks UV and is vented to prevent it being blown away. If you are used to standard umbrellas it may take a little time to get used to the heavier weight.
