Review: Bought for sun protection and it's very good - I never intended to use this umbrella in the rain and did not expect it to be ultra compact. I bought it strictly for protection from the sun and it is excellent for that purpose. I've used it at Disney parks during the summer. I'd tried using a regular umbrella but the heat would still penetrate the fabric. With this umbrella, the sun is completely blocked. I bought the style that has the silver fabric on the outside. I don't use the case it came with, I just wrap the umbrella up with the attached velcro strap. I don't think it would be possible to wrap it tightly enough to get it back into the zippered case anyway. It does not have a push-button or spring opening; you have to push pretty hard to get the umbrella open to the point that the lock engages. To close it, there's no release, you just pull down, past the resistance. It's a little bulky but that's because it's 2 layers of fabric, the silver outside fabric and black inside fabric; bulky but not especially heavy in weight, an acceptable trade-off for the sun protection. My only concern is that in time whatever latches it open might fail since there's not a release, you just push it until it clicks and then pull to close. For this reason I took off a star. But I've used it on 2 trips, a total of 6 or 7 days and each day I opened and closed it at lease a dozen times and it's still working. I don't think it would hold up well in wind or heavy rain but I wouldn't use it for that.
