I was blown away when the replacement start capacitor arrived and it was an exact match with the defective part. It literally took less than 10 minutes to swap out the caps and the pool pump was up and running!Some caveats. This capacitor sits on top of the motor under a cover held on by two hex screws. The literature refers to this capacitor as the, “run capacitor.” Don’t be fooled. This is the capacitor you want to change when the pool motor will not start (just a loud buzz). The original capacitor is 25 µf as is the replacement. The run capacitor is buried deep in the motor housing and would be very difficult to replace so this is great news.I have included some very basic photos showing the typical Pentair motor configuration. I’m sure there are others out there but this unit is apparently the most common.Please make absolutely sure that you’ve disabled power to the pump prior to starting your project. 240 vac should not be taken lightly.Good luck and good swimming.

Used this to repair my Pentair 3/4 HP booster pump model la01n. The swap took no time as it is under the top covering piece on top of the unit. Two screws, move wires, done.

Panic mode! Memorial day weekend. My pool pump stops working! The pool guy said "you need a new pump" $1500 plus labor! I decided to check a few things, shaft spun in both directions. That's good. Pulled the capacitor, tested and no conductivity. Four different stores....no one has it! Amazon saved the day and the weekend!

My first time installing a capacitor on my pool pump but after watching a youtube video it was quite easy.So glad it worked as now I don't have to buy a new pump.A year later the pump hummed again so the first thing I did was check the capacitor.It was leaking under the top so I ordered another one.I read that capacitors can last as little as 1000 hours depending on how hot your pump is running.I am sure the high temperatures we have in Florida don't help.Since I work from home I am able to keep all my filters quite clean and changed about every week or so.I had read a review where a guy said his lasted 5 years but he may be in a cooler climate or have a newer pump.Mine ran for about 2600 hours in a year, it is an older pump so I guess I should be happy so I ordered another one.
