Q: Can these be written on with magic marker?

You can use a Sharpie marker on these and it will stay on. I teach Kindergarten and with that age, the names may fade a little over time since they are playing with their name badges so much. When that happens, I just take a Magic Eraser and clean off the name and write it again. It works great!

Q: can they be used for sublimation?

If you're referring to dye-sublimation type PVC card printers (like those from Datacard, Evolis, Fargo, Magicard & etc., then yes. And, if so, be sure to check your printer's warranty terms, as some at least recommend against using pre-slotted cards, if not outright denying warranty coverage on print-heads if they've been used. Reason being that the pre-slotted cards can have a rough-edge at the slot location, potentially causing a physical scratch to be made on the print-head.
