We accompany our pets to the patio (concrete floor) every morning with a hot cup of coffee, which stays hot over the ensuing 30 minutes to hour of play time. If knocked off a table, they do not break as ceramic undoubtably would. The biggest unexpected factor was that the lid plays a critical role in keeping drinks hot. Without a lid, the mug is just a mug and cools off at about the same rate it would in a ceramic mug. With the lid, however, beverages stay hot for a very long time.
