Downton Abbey: A New Era Digital 2 disc

I love all things Downton and have watched all series episodes many times and bought first film after viewing it in theatre. I was going to buy this film as well but surprisingly it ended up being included with Prime rather quickly. Thats great!! Here are my questions if I could ask J Fellowes. Why can Carson now pour beverages? What magically happened to heal him? Why didn't lady Mary's husband return for her GRANDMOTHERS FUNERAL? Certainly no car is more important than supporting your wife in this situation? Where was the dowagers loyal butler? He was always worried about getting fired or sacked as they say over there and he was no where to be found? No mention of him? Just a character that vanished? Denke ( excuse spelling if wrong) was eating with Downton servants. Was dowager staying at DA? Or where is her staff? Besides Denke? General notes. Marchioness Edith had a lot of work done . Her face and smile are dif now but I cannot put my finger on exactly what surgery she had! Dramatic results though. She looks lovelier than ever before and way more fashionable! What a fab turnaround! I guess my last comment would be how sad I am to say that now may need to be the last film. No Dowager;-( And No more Dowager house to watch Denke and butler go at it hehe will miss that. no dowager to be so witty and surprisingly refreshing with all her one liners! Who will take her place? I feel the show will be flat after these absent characters. Remember no more Barrow either;-( I loved his escape though so elegantly executed buy handsome actor with that beautiful voice and charisma for days! This seems the pinnacle for J Fellowes. His finest writing and moment. I was hoping Gilded Age would be as good but alas it is no match for how pretty much flawless DA was.. Let's see if ever a movie 3 comes out and if audience will attend in same numbers without Dowager etc. Movie felt like end of an Era . Bittersweet!

Simon Curtis (Elizabeth McGovern's husband) and long time friend of Fellowes and the cast takes the helm, and the feel is distinctly different with this film from the onset, more naturalistic and less stiff compared with the TV series and first film. This isn't a review of the film but the Bluray set. Had no issue playing the disc in my region but either the disc or the player will have to be multi-region. Bought this for two reasons, and the Anamorphic Widescreen was one, although it's only in HD and not 4K. The bonus features (last pix) were fun, but offered nothing essential or provided no exclusive insights fans will not already have known or seen elsewhere. The commentary by the Director was the first thing I watched and did highlight aspects of the film I missed watching in the cinema last year. Of course the ensemble cast and new guests - especially of you follow English thespians in their work - were great to watch. The lighting and work of the DOP - provides a very intimate feel and if you enjoy the show, watching it on a UHD screen with a good Sub to boost the audio track's base will make the viewing experience very cosy. This will ensure you hear the background thunder, the warmth of the voices in the 'basement' and even pick up soft peddling of Mrs Patmore's feet as she turns and strides off. Why buy the discs? Well, completing the 'collection' is one, but the other is fidelity. I like watching my fave films with better tones and colour consistency from the UHD playback (has upscale capabilities). The set comes with 'Movies Anywhere' digital download code but I don't use it as it's not available in my territory. One last thing: I did wish the bluray came with a feature on the soundtrack. You can't claim to be a fan without owning at least one format version of this: it may help make a third film!

I didn't even know that there was another Downton movie! I hadn't been to Prime Video in a while, but today I decided to watch something to start my Thanksgiving vacation on the right foot and I could not have wished for a better start than watching this beautiful family once again and to live vicariously through the family and their faithful servants. What a joy this movie was to watch! It had everything! I was sorry to see granny pass away, but what a beautiful funeral! A friend of mine is taking me to England in 2024 and we are going to do a tour of our beloved Downton as her family owns a state nearby. I can't wait! Thank you Amazon for making this lovely movie available to us. It is another gem in the crown that Downton Abbey wears!
