When it comes to baitcasters, usually I stick with brands I know like Lew's. This honestly casts better than my Lew's. And it's lighter. It did take a little time and several bad backlashes to get it adjusted, but once I got it dialed in, it didn't backlash at all. It casts far. The drag and crank power are good. The grips on the crank are nice. The paint job is pretty. Not very thrilled about all the plastic parts, but that's what you get unless you wanna throw down $150 for a swedish made Abu Garcia C series. I feel like it will hold up well if I take care of it. Will update the review if the durability is a problem. Overall, thrilled with this reel, can't beat the price, and some of the funds go toward getting a kid fishing equipment, so it's a win win. Would definitely buy again.

While I would never label this as a smooth reel, it somehow manages to be an overachiever. I am always surprised at how efficient I am when it is in my hands, I rarely if ever have backlash and it casts much further than it should. I love it and would highly recommend it for a low cost baitcaster in the middleweight range.

Amazing Ultra light reel, pair with a CR-5. feel great. out fishing for few weeks, caught few large white bass 1-2 lbs. only issue having is during the retrieval, can feel from the handle the rotation seem wobble at one point. retried with just reeling in the line, smooth but wobble or scraping at that same point during the rotation. checking to get a replacement or upgrade since its 90 days satisfaction guaranty. still a great reel for the money, a random defect is part of life.regardless, love the product so ordered another CS5-4000 and a CS7-4000.update 8/19: emailed Cadence on the minor issue with the first CS5-4000.Truman Murphy shipped me a CS5-4000 which I received in 3 days. Thanks.Another thing i also love about the CS5 is the material, the black color seem to be fused w the material not painted. bought a Pflueger Supreme 2 months before aware of Cadence Co from Amazon, paid twice the price...same ultra light but the silver paint get nick and scratches off.Great service from Cadence. Just got this reel and it is amazing can't believe how well made this reel is for the price of it. I love especially the drag on this real easy to use for those with big hands/fingers. Took it out last weekend for crappie fishing hook onto didn't know at the time to a monster 30 to 40 plus lbs. grass carp thought for sure my 6lbs. mono-line will break. Playing around with the drag and fighting the fish I was able to get it on land in under 10 minutes before my line break. Customer service is even better I wanted to order an extra spool for lining up to fish for bigger fish on Amazon it say the delivery date is between 21 OCT to 02 NOV so I email customer service to ask. I got an email respond the next morning saying that the date on Amazon is not correct when they received the order they ship out right away and should be receiving my product within 4 to 5 days. Mr. Murphy the customer that I was communicating with even told me to order it on Amazon and he will look out for my order to get it process right away. There's even more of that I find out from Cadence portion of the money that I spent buying their product is going to help put a combos rod/reel into the hands of the next generation through on of their charity partners. It was an easy decision to buy the Cadence reel for me cause the product is well made and for the price and even better was their customer services. Mr. Murphy I place an order for the extra CS5 spool last night as promise and thank you again for your quick respond and assistance.

The reel came yesterday and when I opened the box to check out the reel I noticed that the handle shaft was bent it had nothing to do with the shipping the manufacturer quality control never caught it not sure how closely they look but the reel will not last long with a bent shaft. What do I need to do to rectify this?Thanks in advance

Definitely not really happy with this reel. I picked one up in January and been using it alot lately now the weather is getting nicer.I mean it casts ok but it makes a hella noise when casting. Im not sure if all of these Vigor reels do it or not. I would return it if i couldI have about 7 different reels from Cadence. I have 5 spinning reels and 2 baitcasters and this is the only one like that. I would not buy this particular model again. I have 9 baitcasters mostly Abu garcia but also have other well known brands and never heard a reel do this!!

My initial impression is that it was a sleek looking reel with a pretty loose spool (in a good way). However I decided to sneak in a few casts before work. I found it extremely hard to tune the reel. There were constant backlashes and the tension knob was ultra tight and hard to tighten just enough. I found that you got to a point where it was too much or too little tension. I finally got it to where it needed to be. But, it shouldn’t be this difficult to tune it. The retrieve is nice. It’s pretty smooth for the most part. It’s very light. But, almost feels like it’s easy to break. I really wanted to like it. I’m glad I got it on discount. But, I will probably keep using my other reels. Be aware of what you are getting when you buy this reel.
