Medium was much more fitted (in a comfortable way), and the large was more loosely fitting, but both looked fine. Both hit just above my belly button. I ended up keeping the large because it was for a Misty costume and she wears a pretty loosely fitted crop top. I docked a star because although the material is very soft and comfortable, I found it to be a little on the thin side and prone to wrinkling.
