i have bought this item but ineed a backup battery can someone please help me choose.

if you're referring to a backup battery pack for you would need at least something that would last for tthe duration of your recordinds, that will keep it on for 15 to 20 minutes after the power fails.

Will the duplicator identify bad burns or is there some indication of when a DVD/CD does not burn correctly?

There is always a message regarding the burns 5/5 good 0 fail or 4/5 1 fail. I did have a situation when the burn was bad without any message. I was able to tell that it was incomplete as it was a full disc but the copies came out half done and there was no confirmation message regarding a good burn or failure, the trays just popped open and the message screen was blank. I emptied the trays switched it off turned it back on and continued to burn as normal. It only happened once so far.

Can this device handle a heavy work load? Looking to purchase a duplicator that can handle thousands of cd's on a monthly basis.

I duplicate about 2k-3k cds per month and it works great. No issues. Ive had this unit for about 5 months

It support copy mini cds?

I haven't tried, but it is just standard DVD writers, which write and read minis individually, so that shouldn't be a problem.
