Varathane 368029 Less Mess Wood Stain and Applicator, 4 oz, Dark Walnut

I had some floorboards that were showing some wear and tear so I got this to try and re-stain the worn out areas. This worked like a charm! It was very easy to use and control and made my floors look nice and new!

Exactly what I was hoping for!!! Easy application, dried quickly and was the perfect color. I used Dark Walnut and this stain is great quality and definitely worth the money.

I didn’t want to paint my cabinets, but they looked dull, dried out and I just wanted them to look better. This product was super easy to apply (just like polishing a shoe) & gave them a richer look. After a small banister, 9 cabinet fronts, and 4 drawer faces, the sponge applicator was destroyed. There was plenty of stain left, but no way to get it out. Perhaps I pressed too hard, but you have to press down for the stain to come out. I would still buy again. Leaves cabinets a little sticky until it fully dries. This product is a must for me was first time I used the polish in a bottle like this. No mess , mo waste. I was in control of how much I needed and exactly where I wanted to use . I actually enjoyed the job I was fixing.

Complete different color than expected. I purchased thinking it would be a grayish brown. It was VERY orange brown.

This works well with a good color……until you take a wet cloth to the finished surface 24 hours later. It came right off. It’s a temporary fix. Washes off.

Easy to apply with nice deep color.

Very convenient for small hobby projects and a quality stain. Easy to use and coats nicely! The one modification I would like to see made would be a pointed applicator tip allow covering corners on projects. I used a small paint brush to get into the corners. Other than that I would highly recommend buying the product.

Great idea, but no so good design. For one the sponge is kind of crap, should make it as a replaceable one, the sponge fell apart in no time, the stain wasn't consistent, the sponge didnt seem to get my on it as I result I had to be a little heavier on it. Glad I was only using it on some wood for laser cutting and nothing valuable.

It has taken multiple coats of this product to stain an old clock case, but there are still streaks from the grain of the wood. I expected better coverage. I was intrigued by the ease of use concept, but will be going back to the old fashioned way to finish staining the case.

Didn’t stain well, streaky and color very thin. Do not recommend.
