I think it would have been better if Mr. Richards chose to use some classic books of stories originally written in Spanish. These are stories written by Richards and translated into Spanish (and I am guessing translated into the other languages he is trying to teach?).The story plots in this book are easy to follow, but it does not flow, and is not at all natural in feel. I am intermediate Spanish speaker, and am much more able to read and comprehend a book of presentations on a university level (Isabel la Católica y la Evangelización de America) than I am this current tome. By the time I made it through this book I was ready to read a more mainstream book...I picked Las Brujas BTW....I read a chapter to my kids each night (in English) then I re-read in Spanish (to myself).To be completely honest I was a bit reluctant to dive into these types of books because writing compelling stories in your native tongue is challenging enough. The subtle brilliance to these stories is the use of tenses that match the readers level. If you've studied the many tenses of Spanish (as a person learning Spanish as a second language) it's a great feeling to see them being used in context. Granted, you may not understand the word(s) but if you know the conjugation rules, youcan figure out the context of what is being said. From there you can have a fairly good guess and then those words will less likely escape your memory in the long run.Now, there might be some inaccuracies but I believe the purpose of these is two-fold:1. Understanding the general jist2. Learn some wordsI got to the point where I was buzzing through these chapters and didn't bother with the comprehension questions - I didn't understand every word but learnt a few new ones and saw some words I'd previously learnt in context. The point here, I believe, is to use this book as you would any other book you read for leisure. Enjoy the story and move on. I wouldn't try to translate every word (like I tried to do intially) it's a boring, useless excercise and takes the joy out reading.Trust me, when I started reading the first book it was pretty painful - excruciating in fact - but keep going and things get easier and more enjoyable. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ An enjoyable way to enhance your intermediate level spanish *by K***N on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on January 8, 2017* One of the things I struggle with most when studying Spanish is finding material that is interesting... and at my level. This book of intermediate level Spanish stories, which I think is probably about A2/B1, are a great tool for my Spanish project. They are sufficiently interesting and entertaining that I am enjoying reading them, and even more importantly, that I don't my mind re-reading them as the author recommends. The vocabulary is relevant and useful to my needs in Spanish, and the topics range broadly, so that each story is quite unique from the others. The author has chopped each story into three chapters so that even in a relatively short sitting, you can get through a reasonable chunk of text, enjoy the associated feeling of accomplishment, and then there is a summary and review questions to check your understanding.
