The perfect alternative to SSX
I love this game because it offers a great new take on the snowboarding video games. While SSX is a very fun game to play, it is very over the top and everything seem to revolve around doing the most ridiculous stunts you can pull off as often as possible no matter what you're doing. That and the levels can be very linear with bottomless pits scattered all over the place, it can get a little old after a while. Stoked is a nice alternative, the physics feel very realistic, and everything about it is quite similar to the Skate series. Basically, there are various mountains, you select a mountain, select your drop point, and you are free to go wherever you want and do whatever you want. The game has a very laid back style to it, and the structure is very open world. This is one of the only snowboarding games that I have ever played that truly captures the feel of snowboarding in real life, where you are free to go wherever you want on a mountain and simply explore. The controls feel like a mix between Skate and 1080 snowboarding for the N64, where it can be a lot of fun to simply race around and tricks need to be performed off various objects and jumps throughout the mountain, no ollie back flips here! Much like skate, you can't perform ridiculous stunts all over the place, most of the time the best tricks you can perform will be double black flips and 900's, pulling a 1080 is quite the feat in this game, and most of the time you will be performing 360's, 540's, back flips and a mctwist, which keeps everything feeling quite realistic, especially for a snowboarding game. In fact I would say this is the most realistic snowboarding game I have played since ESPN showboarding on PS2, and this game is definitely better than that considering the fact that the level design as well as the controls are a lot better. The graphics could have been better, but considering the fact that this was a relatively low budget video game they are good enough and get the job done. The level design is excellent and the open world aspect is easily the most appealing thing about it. The weather changes along with the time of day in the various mountains which is a pretty cool feature that keeps it feeling fresh, I especially liked the snowflake effects while you are snowboarding on a mountain while it is snowing. Overall I am very impressed with this game and I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for an open world snowboarding game. The menus are very well laid out, and once you load a mountain the loading between runs is very smooth and fast, so I am very impressed with the presentation. There is basically nothing else like this on the market, which is why I am giving it 5 stars, it is a great concept that is very well executed. If you enjoyed Skate and have been looking for a snowboarding game with that style of realistic open world gameplay, look no further.

Independent Company, Big Title
Bongfish is a small production studio and, after teaming up with Destineer, they set out to lay down the best snowboarding game to date. Partnered with snowboard video mogul Absinthe Films, Stoked offers some traditional features while introducing some phenomenal new ideas. While the rider customisation is indeed lacking it is apparent that more time was invested into the actual gameplay than visual mods for your rider (though sponsors include Lib Tech, Tech Nine, Burton and other huge names). With actual varying weather patterns you will see the snow stack up or melt away, with various weather conditions you will see new lines and hits emerge on all the mountains. The total accessible area is astounding-- endless square kilometers await your shredtastic setup. The game sets you as a rider on the ever-so-classic search for sponsorship to unlock new gear and terrain. This is accomplished through completion of media challenges (photo, video), on-hill challenges (trick callouts on specific hits, lines, one-up score records, etc) and comps. This revised updated version (Big Air Edition vs. OG Stoked) offers revised versions of the original mountains and two additional new maps. The controls are reminiscent of EA's Skate series, but are unfortunately less refined (though much better in this version than the original)-- resulting in slightly unnatural shifties and slightly cumbersome grab controls. The gameplay easily finds redemption in the use of the triggers to carve or prewind your spins. Also, your riding style (prewinding with big spins, huge tricks or alternatively slow, floaty airs) will gain you bonuses (new grabs, point bonuses) as you further develop your chosen steez. Stoked: Big Air edition shines over the arcade-esque, unrealistic gameplay of past snowboarding titles with the most honest portrayal of the actual act of snowboarding that any game has yet put forth. While a few deficiencies make it apparent that this would have been more polished if from a larger studio, Bongfish has succesfully destroyed any hopes that the Amped or Shaun White series may have retained after initial release. (If you prefer Tony Hawk to Skate, you'll prefer Shaun White over Stoked.... what a bummer that must be.)

Represents snowboarding scene well, tricks are not polished
Main storyline is pretty good: seek sponsorship, break high scores, racing, video and photo trick shoots are all really cool. Occasional competitions too. Most of this gets pretty repetitive though. The dynamic weather system is an awesome idea. Board graphics are cool, but outfits look somewhat silly. Music is pretty good. The absense of corked tricks and other off-axis tricks is disappointing. Otherwise, air tricks and multiple grabs are cool, though some grabs are difficult. Addition of style grabs and slow spins for more points is cool. Jibs are pretty clunky and there's something just not right about the mechanics. Ground tricks are nearly impossible and the stick just doesn't respond 50% of the time. Worst part of the game for me is that riding straight on a groomed trail and in powder kicks up the same amount of powder which just feels wrong and cheapens the backcountry realism in the game.

Too Dope To Cope
This game is raw as hell. Buy this or get full blown aids. For real though, the games fun. More realistic then SSX if that's what you're looking for. Controls are unique like how the Skate games are, but once you get the hang of them its rewarding as hell to land tricks. Worth the buy.
