Leviton Slim GFCI Weather & Tamper-Resistant Outlet, 15 Amp, GFWT1-E, Black

Replaced old GFCI 15A outlet that was in the garage which constantly tripped. This worked perfectly, simple instructions.

I needed a 20 amp GFCI for the island in my kitchen to replace a 15 amp single circuit outlet on a 20 amp line (contractors can be idiots). This GFCI arrived today and I had it installed in 10 minutes and it tested out fine and worked as expected. I used a Klein GFCI tester to ensure it was working properly after installation. Not sure how this GFCI can be <$20 and the Lutron versions are >$60. There's no difference to my eye or my testing equipment. I'll take Leviton.

I purchased two of these GFCI outlets because I purchased Leviton devices in the past and trust their quality and installability. I recommend following the instructions given and not based on how the device was wired on the prior outlet. I did that the first time and it was incorrectly wired, but when the green light didn't come on and I was unable to reset it, I knew I had wired it incorrectly. The first outlet only had two wires to connect so fixing my mistake was pretty easy. The second outlet I had to connect had four wires and I thought I followed the directions correctly, but it turned out it had to switch the two white wires with each other as well as the two black wires with each other. The directions are correct, but you need to pay attention to how the outlet looks in the directions--it's upside down (as in the picture on Amazon), so everything needs to be reversed (though black is still on the correct side as well as white). I reversed them and the green light didn't come on at first, BUT, I reset the outlet and the green light came on. Since these are outlets in an outdoor patio, I added a waterproof outlet cover to match and protect it from any water or other debris. If I hadn't messed up, it would have taken about 10 minutes to install each outlet. Always make sure to turn off the electricity for the outlet at the electrical box.

The tamper resistant shutters work much better than earlier versions of the system from unknown brands I have used in the past. Smaller than older gfcis. Overall great product I expect to last a long time.

My other outlet got soaked by the pressure washer and stopped working. This outlet was a simple replacement. I avoided paying an electrician hundreds of dollars. Three wires and a handful of screws was all it took.

Installed mine on an unprotected north wall with an outlet cover. Works flawlessly with no false shutoffs and tests OK every time.

Have been using Leviton for all my outside outlets and have never had a problem with them. Easy install. So all is good.

Installation was straightforward. The instructions were detailed (maybe too detailed, if you already know what you are doing). Because of where I was installing the receptacle and the wire length available, I appreciated the new (to me) alternative of sliding the wire ends under a clamp and tightening rather than wrapping around a screw head. I've never been a fan of the "stab"connections, this seems much more secure. The outlet is working, I hope that it lasts as long as the one it replaces. To those complaining the outlet won't reset after installation, make sure that you have it wired correctly. They state explicitly that it will not activate until it is wired correctly. To those complaining that it is tripping regularly, check that what you are plugging in to it doesn't have a ground fault. That's what it is protecting against, after all.
