Question 1

Did anyone happen to compare/consider this unit with the Crane Drop Shape Cool Mist Humidifier (EE-5301-FFP)? If so, why this unit instead?

Accepted Answer

I have both. This Honeywell is by far better then the Crane Drop Shape Humidifier. The Crane is difficult to keep clean and doesn't hold as much water. And it always got a red film (mold?) on the inside which was so difficult to clean. This Honeywell requires replacement filters but the output feels better, imo.

Question 2

when to change filter?

Accepted Answer

I have owned about 5 of these humidifiers because we live in Nevada and it is very dry here, & there is no white dust and it has 3 speeds and I am able to get my hand inside the water tank to wipe clean. I change the filter every TWO WEEKS - I cannot believe the manufacturer recommends 2 months or that someone would leave a filter in for 3 months !!!! This is WATER - it will get moldy !! If you care about your lungs and you want to stay healthy - buy this humidifier and expect to replace the filter every 2 weeks. I fill the water tank morning and evening. Once a week I take it apart and scrub the tank and base & turn the filter over. I am not young & I understand if you are and inexperienced you cannot be expected to know these things - I hope this helps you going forward. NEVER just keep adding water without taking the time to clean once a week and invest in filters - if you don't want to expend the effort, don't use a humidifier. Water will lead to mold and fungus if you do not care properly for your humidifier. from Grandma

Question 3

white dust

Accepted Answer

Thank you for your inquiry. This unit does not generate white dust as it is not an Ultrasonic humidifier. The minerals are absorbed by the wicking filter. Question 4

If i use only distilled water, will i need to replace the filter?

Accepted Answer

Thank you for your inquiry. Distilled water will lengthen the life of the filter, as the main reason for changing the filter is mineral absorption. However, we cannot guarantee that you will not have to change the filter.
