Deluxe CD Review - Amazing Live Set, the rest is ok
This review is for the four disc deluxe set.The two discs that are re-masters of the original album sound amazing. I can't say there are massive differences between the two but I do think they are more clear than the original. Especially the guitar sounds sharper and crisper. Also the drums have some fills that can be heard on these discs that I really couldnt make out on my original pressing. Both discs are upgrades and in a subtle way not a super compressed or re-work kind of way. Solid efforts. The outtakes are interesting. Nothing essential. The single version of the songs are fine for the completists and should have been included in a deluxe edition so I am glad they are here. However, they aren't special or anything that you need to play repeatedly. The live set is simply a jewel. The sound is awesome. The setlist is awesome. The vocals are incredible. Where has this been all these years? What a release! The booklet should have tipped the scales but falls short. Wendy and Mick Wall re-use many portions of the biography that they released in 2021. Without a lot of original material I felt this was something I already read....because I basically did.I would have preferred the notes get written by either Vivian Campbell, Vinny Appice or better yet someone like Tony Iommi or Geezer Butler. Musicians that worked the album or musicians that adored the man's work. How about Rob Halford or Bruce Dickinson? Vocalists that loved his work. This was a missed opportunity.Wendy and Mick make the book too much about Wendy and Ronnie's love story. When they ended up divorced only like 2 years later this feels so wrong and like revisionist history. Wasn't Don't Talk To Strangers written about their relationship falling apart? Anyway, the booklet should have way better than it was.If you are a Dio fan this is a MUST have. The live set is perfect for your collection. The re-masters are only the icing on the cake. Personally, springing $50 for a live set of this level is worth it. Enjoy!

LP sounds fantastic
The band may not have much good to say about this remix, but as a fan I can report that this mix is exactly as powerful and kick ass as you REMEMBER Holy Diver sounding.Let me elaborate, the drums kick harder, the rhythm section has a thump and boom that hits clear and firm, guitars ring clear and drive the heavy drone of the title song, Dio’s vocals have an ease and power that lifts all that metal up to greatest of heights.Stream even the original to the remix and you will hear it. The dynamics are actually improved over the original something that current studio styles favor, but this remix removes from the original where lots of the band sound blended together and maxed out the levels more.Or maybe now I’m remembering my first few listens of the LP against my own memory of this killer record as compared with the original. All I know is it sounds great, glad to have it, live the new artwork!

Well Done
Well I really wanted to like this remix and well it turns out I did. Of course I had to compare this vinyl remix with the original vinyl version I bought when it came out. To me the overall output level is pretty darn close. The remix is nice and punchy and the kick drum splits through nicely on the transients like one would hope for when listening to a vinyl record. Compared to the original recording it seems that the vocals are just a little lower and the guitar is a little louder. I am not impressed by many of the remixes of classic albums done these days but this is very well done..Thanks Joe..Great Job!! Nevertheless if I had to choose between the original version and the remix I would go with the original it is embedded in my DNA.. Somebody hearing it for the 1st time might think otherwise but both are great. Quality of the packaging was also good Records came in archival type sleeves... No warping here. If you are a DIO fan and you like vinyl I think this is totally worth it Or if you cannot find or afford a mint version of the the original this is the way to go.

An Alternate Perspective
One of the other reviewers claimed that this version of the LP says something to the effect of "words and music" by Dio. Note that this is not accurate. The cover actually says "all music and MELODIES by Ronnie James Dio." Big difference. It does not credit Dio with exclusively writing the music, as the other reviewer inaccurately indicated. Band members are given credits for individual tracks. See my attached photographic evidence.Anyway, I am enjoying this remix. I can hear the guitar and bass guitar better than I could with the original. The non fade out versions of tracks comes as a pleasant surprise, as it is great to hear that actual endings were created for every song. I do find this version of "Evil Eyes" to be inferior to the version that made it onto The Last in Line.

Love it, Love the original. A great release
I have an old 80s original pressing of the album, and I A/B compared them. The older one is louder and boomier, but of course , it lacks fine detail in the individual instruments. The new mix is somewhat quieter, but you can hear MORE if you crank it up, like fine detail of the guitar, and the drum work . The tom rolls are EPIC on the new mix. Since our old record has some bumps and scratchy bits, I'll be retiring it in favor of the new one. The song Holy Diver has an alternate ending to the classic, just enough to make an old song new again. This is also mixed 'wide' where in the 80s vinyl mastering, it was more full in your face. I love them both.

Good
Not sure about the complaints, all four disks sound great. The so-called remix may not be needed but it’s a nice touch. The remastered the version sounds very good to me. Glad I purchased it.

The ultimate DIO release!
The remix is actually fantastic! It captures missing elements from the original and the sound production is top-notch! The outtakes and alternate versions were simply fun and the live tracks were well done as well. The book is wonderfully written and adding the lyrics was a great addition despite already knowing them by heart. Now do one for Last in Line, please!

Worth it for the out take CD
Personally I couldn't really hear any difference between the new remixed CD or the remastered one, probably too subtle for my knackered ears. The live CD is great and the out take CD has some cool alternate versions of some Dio classics. Worth it for that CD alone.

Awesome
Oh my goodness, this is worth every penny even without the extras. The sound is amazing.

You should mess with a classic, but....
I was leery about getting this album. Remixes don't always sit well with me. This is an exception.Ronnie's voice us a little more prominent and the bottom end was turned down very slightly. The best part of this record is that there are no fade-outs. Alot of songs end with an improvised outro. This is most noticeable on the title track. Alot of songs also start with a count in, which is cool. The album is double vinyl with a gatefold sleeve. Side four has an etching of Murray. After listening to the same album for close to forty years, it is refreshing hearing it a little different but still maintaining its integrity.

A great set but overpriced…
I am happy to have preordered this but at the same time feel a tinge of buyers remorse for even the preorder price which is about $15 less than what It is going for now. It is a great, open remix and the live cd is fantastic. Great packaging as well. However, when you compare it to comparable super deluxe editions from other artists, it is, as mentioned, over priced. I can completely understand why people feel it is a cash grab by RJD’s EX-wife (not wife/widow as she presents herself). Hope the inevitable Last In Line deluxe is similar quality at a more realistic price.
