INNER SOLE ARCHES AND COMFORT: MEDIUM -GOOD -SUGGEST: SORBATHANE RUBBER INSOLES FOR ADDED INNER SOLE COMFORT. OVERALL SHOE VENTING: EXCELLENT: This particular MERRELL SHOE DESIGN has side holes and mesh venting on the upper portion of the shoe. The holes and mesh design is quite,uniique in this hiking shoe. These venting hole and mesh design allows lateral air flow venting to cool your feet in comfort. HEELS: Although I felt the heel needed to be thicker; due to the daily wear and tear punishment the heel of the shoe receives. The downside of making the heel thicker would entail making this hiking shoe heaver and would take away the the unique sole design structure. My experience with the MERRELL shoes I purchased; is; that all FOUR (4)pairs of MERRELL shoes that I've purchased; have WORN DOWN HEELS! Yet, the soles look almost new! ALTHOUGH I rotate my Merrell shoes; the HEELS OF THE MERRELL SHOES wear out TOO SOON ---within six to eight months. HEEL REPAIR COST: $30.00+:::((( LACES:: :(( "SORRY" YOU HAVE TO TIE THEM UP! Loved the quality, look, and feel. The front 2/3 of the shoe fit fine. The back was odd. The shoe fit, lengthwise, but no matter how tightly I laced them, the back slid on my heel significantly. Would wear out quickly if I had kept them. If you have thin heels, as I do, maybe not. If you have never had a thought about your heels' width, these will be perfect!

I've never had a hiking shoe or boot not give me blisters as they break in. Now, my trial run with these was 10 days at Disney and Universal, so it was not aggressive terrain. But, we averaged close to 10 miles a day. I packed an extra pair of shoes just in case, but I figured I could break these in on an easy trip like this. I expected to get hot spots and swap my other shoes in every other day. Well, I wore these the entire time. Way more comfortable than my running shoes. They're on the heavier side but they're extremely comfortable. You can barely feel the surface you're walking on. Since I've been back, I've been on one short hike. They're really comfortable. Great arch support and you can barely feel the rocks you're walking on. There is a little slip in the heal, but that's par for the course with a hiking shoe. Again, not so much slip that I developed any blisters in the heal or toe area. My guess is this because there is still enough flex in the shoe, even with a nice thick sole. The toe box is a little cramped, but I have wide feet. Either way it hasn't been an issue. When these wear out, I'll be buying another pair. Might just buy another now in case they stop making them. Really great shoe.

These shoes fit me well 1/2 size larger than most others. The toes are kind of pointed and my feet aren’t. They are very comfortable and I had a pair previously that took years to wear out. They were a little tight on my toes though. I ordered this pair 1/2 size bigger ( I have 2 pair of Merrill shoes that are 8s and fit great) and this solved the problem with my toes. Traction is great. Looks are out of this world. Buy some before they are all gone.

I've recently been buying Merrell shoes as the brand is one recognized as being good for those with certain issues that cause sore feet. I've found that wearing the right shoes helps a lot, and these are very rugged, well made shoes that have very good support in that places that matter most. I can attest that my feet feel better when wearing Merrell shoes.

I needed a new pair of walking shoes for an extended European vacation where we would be walking 4-10 miles daily. After researching comments and notes, I ordered a size 14 (I normally wear a 13) a month ahead of the trip. The 14s fit well and in only a week of casual wearing around my neighborhood, were extremely comfortable. In the three weeks we walked all over Italy, I was in these for 10-16 hours per day and my feet stayed comfortable and blister free. The shoes held up marvelously and I should get lots more wear with them. Purchase a size larger is a great recommendation, but these turned out to be fantastic for my needs

I love the style of these hiking shoes & that they are all leather; & Merrell is a trusted brand. However, these shoes run small & have a very narrow toe box. Based on customer reviews, I ordered a half size larger (12) than I normally wear (11.5), but I received a 11.5! The 11.5 is too small & I am being charged $8 to return them, even though I ordered the larger size! And since the ordering process for this item will not permit the customer to select the appropriate size, I am ordering a replacement pair from another supplier at an additional $35 over the price of these shoes!!

I wear these shoes for work and play and so far I have few complaints. They're grippy in the wet and good for challenging hikes but not very waterproof. They look great but the fit leans towards slim with a high arch which is perfect for me. I'm on my third pair but have never paid full price so shop around and you'll definately find good deals.
