UK useless
Don't buy this in the UK ,I contacted Uniden in the States after buying an R8W on Amazon US only to be told it is not intended for use in the UK the data bases are America and Canada only ,where most of the speed traps are radar based on K and Ka band Here in the UK laser is the most preferred weapon of revenue ,for which this or any other device is pretty much useless ,so if you want to risk a term in an HM prison the only effective tool is a laser jammer The British police are way ahead of the curve on traffic revenue enforcement

Just buy it. If you think you need it, you probably do. After one year i reckon its saved me enough money to buy it again. It detects miles ahead and behind. Its very programmable too, so you can pick up only the channels you want to hear. Comes in a nice travel case for when you store it or take it down, say parking in public. Well worth the price, definitely recommend. Works better than the passports. Pros -picks up at long range -detects many freqs/channels -easy to use -comes with everything you need Cons -a bit expensive but worth it -12v plug button broke already, get hardwire kit.

K band I noticed picks up alot of the signs that show your speed on the side of the road and lot of other false alerts. I turned K band down to lowest setting which is 30% I think which helps but there still is false alerts, I wouldn't turn K band off completely just so you're not caught lacking ever but whenever I hear KA band that's when I lock in cause usually its pretty good at picking it up. Definitely a good radar but definitely pricey as well, I bought it on sale for $650 but I would recommend it.

The best radar in a world i can say. Super long range, perfect accuracy, catching speed camera almost a 1km away from you. Doesn't give you a false alerts if you turn off K band. Already saved me more money then the price of this radar. Only buy this radar and never go with Redline 360c.

Arguably the best detector on the market. The R8 is Uniden's top-of-the-line detector, it has very long range, has directional arrows, and has many customizations to help weed out false alerts. Bluetooth makes it easy to change settings via phone app. Be warned, the marketing material says this unit is not detectable by police using the Spectre I and IV radar detector detectors (RDDs), but real-world testing shows that the Spectre III and Elite RDDs can sometimes detect the R8 at close range. I'd go with the Escort Redline 360c or Valentine V1G2 if you need 100% stealth.

Lots of software adjustments, options for filtering, display colors, sounds etc. Like all detectors I guess, there are a lot of false K band triggers from other vehicle radar blind spot monitoring. The Uniden allows adding a few ranges of frequencies to not trigger the warnings, but there is some risk in doing that in excess and missing a real police radar event. I only have one complaint that would not be an issue for everyone. I mounted it to a sand filled base pad, designed to sit on the dash and using high strength Velcro, which I did with my Escort as well. The bottom of the Uniden housing is not flat, making it sit crooked to one side or the other when snapped onto the Velcro. I know, picky. I'll have to figure out a way allow for the angle.
