Sport Hat

I'm very sensitive to the sun and have to seriously limit my exposure. I bought this hat to wear under my helmet while bike riding and it works perfectly. It's so lightweight it doesn't bunch up under my helmet or make my head hot, the brim is stiff enough that it doesn't flap around (actually, it doesn't move at all) while I ride even in strong wind. The neck flap stays in place well over the back of my neck, and the wide visor perfectly shades the sides of my face. The slant of the bill is great for when the sun is at low angles, and doesn't block my vision at all. It definitely does increase drag, and sometimes a strong gust will catch under it and push my helmet back a bit, but that's going to happen with any kind of helmet sun protection and it's never impeded my riding. It also doesn't limit my peripheral vision. I can imagine this hat would be great for jogging or any kind of exercise due to its super light weight and stiff brim. It's also comfortable for just strolling around in the sun, and hardly messes up your hair since it's so light. Highly recommended for all activities!

I love, love, love this hat! I've used it for years, and then somehow I lost it mid-safari in Africa and had to use other hats to shade my face/neck. So I can tell you that the brim is the perfect depth and has the perfect coverage of my face - the baseball cap at least had a ponytail slot so that was good, but no ear or neck protection; a similar neck-protecting vented hat had way too wide a brim all the way around. That extra fabric blocked my ears, so I couldn't hear as well (and others couldn't hear me as well, either), and it acted as extra material to catch the wind to tug it off my head. I've packed it with me on many trips and it "folds" fine. That is, the crown doesn't really have a shape to lose, it's very unstructured. I wouldn't fold it into eighths or cram it into a corner of a suitcase, but it would probably be fine with a spritz of water and spreading it out in its right shape. The hat is very lightweight and the mesh vents are great. The ponytail opening is very welcome, and it's very easy to adjust. It's not couture but I think it's rather fetching compared with some of the "fisherman's hats" that are out there. Other reviews make it sound like it's "cheap" or "flimsy," but I'm not sure what they're comparing it to. It IS very lightweight, but it's water-resistant, easily hand-washable, packable, easy to use, and sturdy enough to have lasted 5 years before my tragic loss at an airport in Africa!

This is my second Sunday Afternoons Sport hat. I have worn out my first one after more than seventeen years!! It is great at keeping the sun out of my eyes and off of the back of neck. The first one I had was made in the USA. This one is made off-shore. It is a little bit larger overall than my original one and I would like it more if it was just a smidge smaller. I ordered the small/medium and have cinched the adjustable band to fit my medium-sized head but that leaves a little pucker in the crown of the hat. That said; I do get a lot of compliments on this hat. This hat will likely be too large for anyone who has a small-sized head.

Looks cute on a woman. This hat is surprisingly not hot. I was initially concerned because one reviewer says it's hot. To my surprise it's quite breathable. It doesn't actively cool your head, but it keeps you feeling much cooler when you are under the sun than without any hat. I think the white fabric helps reflect a lot of the sun's direct heat. The flap has 2 layers - the inside layer is darker, same as the underside of the brim. I thought the flap may trap heat, but it actually keeps your neck cool because the stiffer double-layered fabric doesn't drape directly on your neck, thus leaving some space between your neck and the flap to allow plenty of air circulation. I have a pony tail and the flap keeps it away from sticking to my neck. Definitely cooler than without the flap. The flap isn't long so make sure you wear a top w/ high enough neck line. My head and neck sweat a ton so it's impossible to keep sunscreens on. With this hat I can skip wearing sunscreens on the back of my neck and ears. In the front forehead area that's a thick strip of fabric that's designed to wick sweat. I normally don't like sweat bands because they tend to trap heat and make me hot, but this hat's partial sweat band doesn't seem to contribute to overheating. On really hot days (over 90 F) I simply spray cool water on the sweat band so the wet strip will actively cool my forehead and keep me feel more comfortable when working out in the hot sun. The crown fabric is a bit stiff due to water repellent coating but it's not overly hot and it can double as a rain hat when the rain isn't heavy. The mesh sides provide plenty of ventilation so it's quite comfortable as long as there's some kind of breeze or if you are on the move. I bought the medium size and it's plenty big for me. The back adjustment as well as the neck cord keep the hat on me even in the wind. there's no velcro to mess up with your hair, and the pony tail hole is rare for hat of this style. I have long hair so I thread my hair into the hole as a loose pony tail. It keeps my neck cool. the brim is wide enough in the front but won't block my view. The problem I have with most sun hats are (1) too big; (2) too deep in the crown area or brim too low that they will block my vision; and (3) too hot because I am a big head-sweater. This hat doesn't have any of these problems. It's a great design with lots of attention to details that make it super practical and still decent looking. Note that this is a sport hat and not a high fashion statement. I wear it for hiking/running or doing outdoor sports when I need to keep my head cool and vision clear. It goes well with my athletic clothing. More over I can keep it on while driving because there's no back brim to hit my car's headrest, and it's also compatible with high back pack. I bought another SA hat (The Lotus hat) for non-sporty casual occasions as it goes better with my casual dresses. SA makes great sun hats for different occasions.

I wore this hat walking the Camino for a sunny week in Portugal and Spain and it did not disappoint. The brim is wide enough to protect the entire face and the "ponytail hole" in the back kept my long hair off my neck and helped me stay cooler. It packs flat and weighs almost nothing. I've also worn it doing yard work. Durable, functional, high quality, light, and it doesn't look too bad style-wise. It's the perfect sunhat.

I just love this hat. So light weight and best fitting hat I’ve ever owned. Doesn’t flip up in the wind. Very breathable. Highly recommend!
