Q: Need to place this on a chest of drawers and view time at night from 6 ft away. Will it be bright enough to read the time? Do not need alarm.

i have it set on the brightest setting and i can't see it at nite unless i'm right near it. unless your vision is bionic, i would say no, you wouldn't be able to see the time from 6 ft away.

Q: If you turn the dimmer all the way down, can it not glow at all at night? Or will the numbers still be visible in the dark? (I like dark at night.)

They are visible in the dark, but you can turn it all the way down and it is barely visible. I lit it dark at night too, and it still works great for me.

No, it is battery operated. Makes for a cleaner side table!

Q: About how often do the batteries need to be replaced?

I've had it for months and still haven't needed to replace the batteries.
