## Overview

The ALS Guitar Fret End Dressing File by Uo-Chikyu Hiroshima is a premium tool designed for guitarists seeking to refine their instrument's fret ends. Made in Japan from hardened tool steel, this 6-inch file features dual cutting and smooth sides, ensuring a professional finish that enhances playability and sound quality.

## Description

This specially made file is used for deburring and smoothing off the ends of the frets on a guitar or other fretted instrument. This means the ends will be less sharp and less likely to be uncomfortable while playing the instrument. Sharp fret ends are especially problematic after the fingerboard shrinks a little and the frets stick out the sides of the board. By rounding off the corners of the frets on a new guitar they will not become a nuisance as they begin to protrude out the sides of the fingerboard over time. The file can also be used on older guitars which already have sharp or protruding fret ends. The file has two smooth edges, these are used against the timber fingerboard and are smooth so they will safely glide over the timber and not dig into the fingerboard. The cutting edges are then used to take off the corners of the fret. With a little practice a full fingerboard only takes a matter of minutes. There is no need to take off a lot of the fret, just the very corner. One or two strokes on each corner of each fret may be all that is needed. It is ideal to round the corner of the fret off right down to where it meets the fingerboard, so particular attention should be given to angling the file so that rounds off this part of the fret and not just the top edge.

Review: Made finishing the sharp ends easy - I have in my tool inventory a lot of small files for various jobs. Use them for cleaning up and finishing fret ends. But the results are inconsistent and the ends never look professional to me. So on the strength of other reviews I purchased this file. What a difference to have the absolute right tool specially made just for this job. I just completed a complete finish on a Les Paul neck and it took about 20 minutes. Admittedly the frets were in pretty good shape for a new neck but there were a lot of sharp edges. This tool made it simple and the result is consistent and looks professional. If you are unhappy with the tools you are using, I urge you to but this file. I will never finish a re-fret or a new neck with anything else. It is sweet and really feels good in the hand.
Review: Excellent Quality, Very Fine Teeth - Keep in mind that this is a very fine cut that removes very minimal material from the frets. If you are expecting to see the shavings fly you'll be disappointed. I use it for very fine final touches after roughing them with the Stew-Mac tool.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Idiot Proof. Works As it Should!

When you own more than a few guitars maintenance will get costly. I own ten+ guitars, with more than half needing some sort of fret filing. Before purchasing this tool I'd bought a cheap set of files which were supposedly made for frets. Big mistake. One guitar took almost an hour to file down its sharp fret edges and there was noticeable wear to the wood/binding. The files had worn down more wood than metal. 'Totally turned me off to filing my other guits. When I found this fret file on Amazon and read the positive reviews I was still skeptical but took a chance anyway. While the price may seem high, the ease and speed with which I was able to smooth out frets made it more than worthwhile. I ended up smoothing out the fret edges to all of my guitars in less than an hour, without fear of harming any surrounding wood and binding. Yeah, $25 may sound like a lot to pay for a file but the money I've saved doing the work myself with this most helpful tool made it more than worth it. Highly recommended!
