Alkalines will freeze, rechargables start at a max of 1.4 v and drop to 1.2 v fairly quickly and do not like extreme cold. They do not work in Iowa winter. All my external sensors use AA Ultimate Lithiums and last the entire winter, even at -15 below zero F. I change them out every Fall. **Q: Why doesn’t outside temp register? Inside temp is working I also put in brand new batteries** A: Check that your batteries are charged to 1.5. If you don't have a way (voltage meter) to check, try brand new batteries that are new off the store shelf. For the sync-up process, the batteries must be 1.5 or better.
