I bought this for my 7-year-old who is currently obsessed with bugs and "treasure hunting," and it was a huge hit. Usually, these dig kits are over in five minutes, but this one actually took some time and effort, which was great for practicing patience! The "amber" pieces are actually resin, which is a relief because they’re clear enough to see the insects once you've cleaned them up. The specimens inside look surprisingly cool—they aren't just tiny dots; you can actually see the legs and wings clearly. My son felt like a real scientist using the little tools to carefully chip away at the brick. It can get a little messy (it’s a dig kit, so that’s expected!), but we just put a trash bag down on the table first for easy cleanup. It also comes with a little learning guide that explains what each insect is, so it turned into a fun mini-science lesson. If you need a gift that combines "doing" with "learning" and keeps them off their screens, this is a perfect choice!

Very fun and educational, can teach your kids about fossilized amber. Bugs are varied and colorful. The material is the same as any “dig kit”, messy enough to do outside or in a cardboard box inside. Keeps attention through the process and neat keepsakes after but unless you have a budding paleontologist this may be a one and done activity which isn’t a bad thing, they should remember it for years!

Bugs are my grandson's new "special interest" so this dig kit fit the bill. Not only do they get the fun of excavating specimens, they end up with collectible bugs in "amber". Great value.

I was afraid id get plants like some of the reviews lol! but thankfully not. The kit is great quality and lots of fun you can dig up one specimen one day and save the rest for another time just make sure it drys properly i highly recommend its really great.

My daughter loves insects so I thought I would get her this. When she did it there was no insects but just leaves , she was super sad and disappointed. It really sucks seeing your young child feeling that way when the item description said there was insects. UPDATE: seller was able to give me a refund and send me the product again 10/10
