Introduction to Medical-Surgical Nursing, 5th Edition 5th Edition

I bought this book brand new and for SO much less than what my bookstore wanted to charge me. This book is very informational but very redundant as well. The chapters are lengthy and you feel like you're reading the same thing over and over. For so much reading I have to do I really wish this book was a soft cover. It is so hard to sit there so long with a gigantic hard covered book on your lap. Very impressed by the seller... They had this book to me the quickest! Ordered all of my books on the same day and this book was the first to arrive within a few days.

Oddly enough, this book has the information omitted from the 6th Edition and now I use both because the course has questions from both.

The book is easy to use and read. Very user friendly. It does have letters in some areas that I dont know what it is there for. But I quess I will go to the glossory to see if there is any mention of that there. Other than that, there is not much to say.

Okay, it is a Med-Surg book, so it's not going to be super exciting. But the material in med-surg, (disease processes and nursing interventions) could be interesting material. But not in this book. It is very dry, incredibly boring, the chapters are FAR too long. I feel like it repeats the same information a lot, and it is hard to read and trudge through. I thoroughly DO NOT enjoy having to use this book. One other problem with the book, although I have the current edition, is that it is slightly out of date. The information on hemmorhoids for example go into great detail about procedures that are hardly ever used anymore, and it brushes over laser removal in one sentence saying it isn't common because it is too expensive, when in reality, laser removal is now one of the best treatments there are for hemmorhoids. It also has outdated information on diverticulosis and diets for patients with that disease. Recent studies have shown that the old rule of no nuts and seeds makes no difference to the patient. Any gastroenterologist will tell you this. At times it also feels like the book goes into way too much detail--I am studying to be a nurse, not a physician and not a dietician. It is miserable picking through the chapters of this book and trying to determine what actually applies to me as a nurse. 90% of the content I have never been tested on in class, nor have I seen in any of the NCLEX reviews. Obviously, this is the book my school is using for med-surg, so I have no choice but to suck it up and bear it. It is just a difficult book to work through and understand (and I am an A student with a 4.0). Lastly, I have found multiple contradictions in this book compared to my pharmacology book published by the same company, so it becomes very confusing trying to determine which answer is correct, and often the instructors can't even answer it, so this is a foreseeable problem for the NCLEX, not knowing what information is correct. If you have a choice, which you probably don't, go with a different book. If you are an instructor looking for the text you want to use, PLEASE consider a book that isn't so dry, breaks things down more simply, doesn't repeat itself, and has up-to-date medical information. On the plus side, I bought the book used, so even though it was still quite expensive I saved a lot of money. The book arrived very quickly-got it in plenty of time for class. It was also in excellent condition even though it was used. One last thing, this book is huge and VERY heavy. It's a real pain to carry around and barely fits in a backpack.

A great value and an excellent book for nursing or caregivers. Very detailed and written at college level which can help with classes.

This goes with the book very well. If your in nursing school and use the book that goes with this study guide, you won't b disappointed
