Lilly Miller Moss Out for Lawns Ready-to-Spray, 32 Ounces

OK if you have moss in your grass you have growing condition problems. Mine was a PH issue. I am working to correct that. But in the mean time I wanted to kill the existing moss to aid in turf recovery. This product works great. The moss turns black and dies almost over night. It is not a preemergent herbicide. So some moss will return. It's like any weed killer. After each application you will have fewer and fewer weeds. I used it in the spring and again in the fall. There is considerably less moss with each application - while I am correcting the PH condition of the soil. It is very easy to us. Please note one bottle ONLY covers about 500 sq. feet. Don't try to stretch it. Apply as directed. And finally, this product contains iron which gets your grass greener but creates a rust stain on everything else. Keep it off of concrete and clothing (like your new khaki shorts).

Killed moss dead right away and I planted grass seed right away

I had muss growing in between my patio stones, this did the job and killed the moss so the pressure washer can remove the dead moss, just be careful where sprayed, it will stain concrete with an orange stain, hopefully my pressure washer will remove the stain.

Very easy to use because you just hook it up to your garden hose. Liquid works much better than spreading crystals. Moss Out works pretty good but my experience is you have to do at least 2 applications to kill all the moss. To get the best results clearing moss from your yard with less applications, you need to physically remove some of the moss first - like with a rake - or scrape some off. You need to be careful that you don't run out of the moss out liquid while applying it - then you end up just watering your lawn. I did that a couple times and it was frustrating that the moss didn't die at all because the sprayer ran out of liquid and it was coming out all water. The tube inside the sprayer goes straight down - so if you're like me and tilt the sprayer down when spraying, it is best if you never get low on liquid in the sprayer. It's cheaper to buy the 1 gallon container for refills. I would recommend this product.

If the product works, why am I giving it only one star? In all fairness, I should be giving it 3 or 4 stars, but when I look at product reviews, I often limit myself to the one-star reviews, and I'm making the assumption that others might be doing the same. And there is in fact a significant problem with "Moss Out." The problem is as follows. If you have tough moss, intermingled with thatch, as I did, the manufacturer recommendation of 8 ounces of concentrate to 3 gallons of water is entirely ineffective. I only got satisfactory results with 8 ounces of concentrate to ONE gallon of water. (For reasons I won't bore you with here, I wound up using this "ready to spray" product not with the hose attachment, but mixing the concentrate it contains with water in my own sprayer). This suggests, and my own earlier experience using it as instructed--that is, attached to my garden hose--confirms, that its actual range of effective coverage (again, for tough moss) is closer to 150 square feet than to the manufacturer's claim of 500 square feet. So the product DOES work even on tough moss, but ONLY at three times the strength recommended by the good people at Lilly Miller. If you're dealing with tough moss, it might be better to buy a gallon of the concentrate and mix it with the right amount of water yourself. In retrospect, that's what I wish I had done.

Got it and sprayed the moss. I sprayed a lot on since I don't have a ton of moss. Went outside this morning and the moss is BLACK! Yep. I will spray it all a few more times over the next week but this stuff actually worked.

Dang, this stuff works. Killed the moss attached to my Japanese maple by the next day w/o hurting the tree. I am happy.
