I've been wearing digital casios since 1981, most recently the G-shock series. However, the G-shock seemed oriented towards very high durability and a military look, which seemed unnecessary. Some of them had features on the face, for example graphic illustration of the passage of seconds or phases of the moon, that seemed decorative rather than useful. These resulted in cluttered faces. The Pro Trek is simple and functional. Date and time are very visible with a glance. Battery with solar replenishment (and a small charge status indicator), no USB charging. My phone will give me global positioning with a bigger format, no need to duplicate with a watch that will just be one more thing needing charging. One drawback is that some of the minor indicators on the face for settings are much too small, but these are ones that are typically set and not adjusted. I love the very visible compass feature (even though my phone does have one), useful in both urban and nature settings. The Pro Trek is fairly large but is more comfortable that my previous smaller G-shock. Sometimes things are just very pleasing, and this is the case for me with the Pro Trek. I've dropped and banged it a number of times and anticipate continued durability even if it's not a G-shock. BTW, Amazon had an unusually good price, which often is not the case.

This model is a really nice upgrade from my previous Casio altimeter. Although the latter was (and is) great, this new model: - Has larger digits, so it's easier to read (especially for an old geezer like me!) - Has a dedicated, much larger light button that's no longer right next to the adjust button -- so it's MUCH easier to use in the dark! - Has a much brighter night light -- so it's MUCH easier to read at night - Has a really good, functional band (much better than the PITA one on my previous model) I'm VERY happy with it -- definitely 5 stars for this one!!

I bought the PRG340 to replace my old SGW300H (battery powered with dual sensor barometer/altimeter and temperature) that failed after several years. It served me well as a rugged watch and one that was useful on mountain hikes. That watch was only $35-$40! I didn't see a newer Casio model like it, so I started considering any watch type. I ruled out an Android watch and other smart watches as I do not want to deal with recharging my watch frequently. I considered the Garmin Instinct Solar which looks even better in looks and features than this Casio, but reviews revealed that the battery fails to hold it's charge after about two years. That Instinct cannot be powered by solar alone. So it came down to the Casio PRG 270 and this 340. For $40 more, the 340 provides me a better looking watch for my taste, the dual level screen for the compass marks over the numerical watch face, and the rotating bezel for compass work. Other than that the features are the same, so get the 270 if you like its looks better and don't care about the enhanced compass features. Check out detailed reviews and the Casio instructions online for the cool trek mode and its capture of max/min elevation, total ascent/descent, waymark readings, etc. As someone else said, it's a great dumb watch.

Great watch. Very happy with it. Love the dual layer LCD display for the compass function and newer generation triple sensor but come on casio. Give us multiband 6 on these! The previous generation had it.. So 4 stars instead of 5 for that.

I bought the PRG340 Pro Trek in Black to replace a PAG50 Pathfinder I bought in 2002. The PAG50 is still going. Everything on it works. It's still running on solar and the original battery 25 years later. Damn! So why buy a new watch? The PAG50 uses the original Casio triple sensor while the PRG340 uses the newest sensor module with increased accuracy, smaller size, and less power draw. And it has some new features like being able to save a compass bearing for fast heading checks. A rotating bezel to mark North relative to your heading. Sunrise/ sunset times. Correction for declination on the compass. And a barometric pressure drop tracking feature with an alarm to alert you of incoming storms. Plus I figured I got pretty amazing life out of the PAG50 but the thing ain't gonna last forever. So how does the PRG340 stack up against it's 25 year old predecessor? The PRG340 looks bigger than the PAG50 but put them back to back and they are virtually the same size. The PRG340 has a thinner profile though. Also the strap allows the watch to lay flat whereas the PAG50 strap is in a permanent curve that won't allow the watch to lay flat. The buttons on the PRG340 are chunky as hell and make it look like a comic book thing. But..... those chunky buttons are much easier to use. In black the watch looks like a military timepiece. Not so great for casual wear. In contrast the PAG50 had a much cleaner sleeker look that was easy to pull of with jeans and a casual shirt. I can live with the comic book look. Surprisingly both watches have the "Duplex" display that allows the compass to overlay the home screen so using the compass is relatively easy. Even more surprisingly, the PAG50 does a better job with the compass display. I don't know why they messed with the design on that feature. The MSRP on the PAG50 was $250. The MSRP on the PRG340 is $310. That's a 24% price increase in 25 years. Not bad at all considering the additional features. As always I love the Tough Solar charging. I looked at the Suunto Core and I love the look but the negative display is unusable and the battery powered design is just not something I'll ever have to worry about with a Casio Tough Solar watch. I'm a Casio customer for life.

This watch was a replacement for my 12 year old Casio Pro Trek PRW 3500. The new watch is lighter, thinner and the buttons are easier to activate. I love the rugged and functional looks of this watch. Also, unlike the Apple Watch, you don't need to worry about recharging the battery, it's solar powered. A big plus if you plan to be somewhere that does not have access to electrical outlets. The only thing missing in this watch vs. the 3500 is atomic auto timing. But with the watch being +/- 15 seconds per month that is no big deal.

No he querido correr el riesgo de sumergirlo en el mar para bucear
