A Reading the Paranormal Review
This entire series has been kick-in-the-pants wild from beginning to end. But this book THIS BOOK is just a RIDE from page 1 straight on through. We got to see many MANY familiar faces and it was glorious! No lie, Annwyl's fearless rage over pretty much anything and everything that is a threat to those she considers hers has always been a favorite of mine and we got to see her doing her thing in a big way. While this is technically Aiden and Branwen's romance, this is also the final battle between the dragons and the zealots, so there's a lot going on. The zealots are horrible and heartless and they're willing to do anything for their god (or the spokesperson for their god). The dragons...want to protect their people and they children and not let the zealots continue purifying those who won't join their cause. The dragons might sometimes eat horses (HE WAS DYING ANYWAY!) and some of them might poison their way through entire castles, but they're always true to themselves (except the ones who joined the zealots, which I don't get at all). But let's get to Brannie and Aiden's romance. Branwen is pretty clueless about all the relationship stuff. She's wicked awesome in battle, but she just doesn't see that Aiden has a thing for her. Everyone else sees it, but Brannie doesn't. Meanwhile, Aiden absolutely knows that clueing Branwen in on his feelings is going to send her running. As you might guess, it takes a while for them to get to a relationship where they BOTH know what they're doing, but they get there. Eventually.Anywho. There's a lot going on here including but not limited to Keita poisoning people, a trip to the Eastlands, Bercelak being his glorious scowly self, Annwyl ripping out tongues, Brigida the Most Foul thumping her way through the countryside, Branwen being EXTREMELY seasick, and a few gods putting in appearances. See? A LOT.-Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal

Branwen the Awful and Aiden the Divine
5 stars - I loved it!It’s been seven years since the war against the Chramnesind zealots started. Key players are missing and it's time to make one last stand or die. Branwen the Awful is tasked with going with Keita the Viper to locate her missing friend. While all the army amasses to take a last stand against the zealots.I have liked Branwen the Awful since she was introduced. She is always kicking ass and keeping everyone in line. Unless she is with Izzy then she turns into a giggling teenager who keeps getting in trouble. I would follow her without question because she really cares for her troops and will fight with them. Aiden the Divine is really the best person for her. She needs someone who can smooth talk and calm down a group, like her father Bram. Branwen was just a great warrior and a great leader.Aiden is a deadly Mì-runach warrior but also a smooth talking dragon. He keeps his fellow warriors in line as best as he can. I love how these two started as friends and slowly fell in love. Aiden was just great! Him and Branwen had wonderful chemistry and worked great together in battle too. Also I enjoyed Brannie being the one who freaked out when it came to their feelings instead of Aiden. It was a nice change to see it be the female, not the male doing that. The war against the zealots was a long and bloody battle filled with dragons, demons, tentacles, and flesh eating animals. This was an action packed and tense book because so much could go wrong. Also I really enjoyed how Annwyl keeps winning over new allies. It's always interesting and very bloody. The ending of this book made it seem like there could be more books in the future, especially with Brigida the Most Foul still being around. I hope we do get more books because I adore this series and all the characters in it, except for Kita. Still not a fan of hers.

This was a good read. A lot more going on than usual so I just skipped to the main characters pov. Still made me laugh and I enjoyed reading these charters.

Loved it
I've been waiting for this release it seems like FOREVER!!!! Finally started reading it and OMG....I cried...then later in the book I'm like OH NO SHE DIDN'T! G.A. Aiken you are soo mean! I mean that in a loving way BTW! Biggest sike evah! I'm not saying what cause I dont wanna ruin it for other readers. It will blow your damn mind when y'all figure that s*** out! Anywho, I loved the book. I already loved Aiden from the previous books. He's like really down to earth compared to the rest of the lot. Brannie of course I always love her but she is totally like her mom! Oblivious! Just leaving it there yo! Honestly, with everything happening in this book it will BLOW your mind! At least it did for me. I didnt laugh as much in this one but there were some seriously funny stuff. I think the humor was kinda out of it because of all the seriousness going around. Kept me on the edge for sure! I seriously dont wanna spoil it but that woman? I sooo saw that coming! You know who I mean! Doing it for her Kin my ass! Pick it up and read it. Cant be read out of order or you'll be one lost cookie! On another note this is the last of Dragon Kin...JK sorta. She's taking a break like she did in the Pride series. Its not goodbye cause so many characters to write about and its not the end of the story. Not a cliffhanger but an obvious continuation. This woman works hard on her books and its a lot of work! She puts sooo much into her books and she literally locks herself away for months! So yeah I can so understand she needs to work on something else for awhile. XOXO

A strong end to this story arc, but the romance didn't quite take off
Four and a half stars. This book brings to a climax the arc of the Zealots and the god Chramnesind as Queen Annwyl the Bloody and the dragons of Garbhan Isle together with Queen Rhiannon and all the characters we have met in the past eight books draw together for the final conflict. This is an epic book, don't even try to read it if you haven't read the previous books, all our old favourites are back to do battle. Annwyl gets dragged into a well and disappears. Dagmar Reinholdt and her cohorts are plotting, the Cadwaladrs are their usual blood-thirsty selves and we see the Mi-runach and the Daughters of the Steppes. G.A. Aiken brings all of these fantastic characters to life so vividly and weaves the strands of their stories together in the tradition of some of the great fantasy novelists of my childhood. At the personal level, Captain Branwen the Awful and her best friend Aidan the Divine have been fighting side by side against the Zealots. After Chramnesind's priests level the mountains as far as the eye can see, Aidan, Brannie and two of Aidan's Mi-runach brothers Caswyn and Uther drag themselves from the rubble and flee the approaching Zealot army, only to run into Rhiannon's youngest daughter Keita the Viper. The foursome are ordered to protect Keita as she undertakes a dangerous mission. To do all of the different threads true justice this book needed to be twice as long (I wouldn't have minded). There was just so much going on that the romance between Branwen and Aidan didn't really take off for me. There didn't seem to be any great love between them, just two best friends who kind of slipped into love by accident. I also thought that, and probably intentionally, this book wasn't as laugh out loud funny as some of the others. Sure, Keita, Uther and Caswyn provided some light relief, and the Daughters of the Steppes are always good value, but overall this was a more sombre book as befits the climax of a story arc about a vicious cult.I really liked this but I didn't love it. Branwen and Aidan just weren't strong enough characters in my opinion, Keita really stole the show from them even though it wasn't her book. But it was a strong fitting end to the Zealots, although it looks like there might be more trouble on the horizon ...I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

Lots of different tales to get through
This is a great story, but there were too many lose ends to play with. I will try my best not to include spoilers.Once again we are in the crazy world of the Dragonkin. We learn how the family have moved on over the last few year: basically since the Riders of the Plains arrived into their lives. Those ladies rock by the way, with a level of crazy that makes Annwyl look normal! They were definitely part of the comic relief, that make GAA books so hilarious.I loved the romance between Brannie & Aiden. Its a slow burner, with Brannie being her obstinate Cadwaladr self. Funny, tender and a bit surreal. I also loved that we met old friends: Bercelak, Rhiannon, Dagmar & her children (especially her girls), Rhianwen & the TWINS...all of them. Everyone was in great from, with cracking dialogue, mad cap adventures and lots of violence. Exactly what we have come to expect of the DragonKin, their family and friends. So why only 4 *. I know that this was one of the last stories in this series and I am sorry about that. There are still too many lose ends. Add to that, I want more of this crazy world and people. G.A.Aiken has created some of the funniest, violent and escapist literature I have ever read. I would like more. I also feel that there was too much going on, and this meant I was jumping around trying to remember why different people acted in a particular way.As for the story line about Ren of the Chosen.......( no spoilers, but a bit lame!).So :* What exactly is Brigida up to?* When do we get a story about Izzy being the Dragons God Champion* What about stories for Talwyn & Talan, or Rhianwen? That's my (personal) peeve, of what was a good story, but not a great one.

Amazing, a grand, epic saga.
This is the culmination of the last several Dragon kin books the war with the blind God Charissumund (sorry if misspelled) and Queen Annwyl the Bloody and all her allies. The twists and turns this book takes are amazing and you do not see what's coming next. As the book begins the Allies have forced the cult of Charissumunds back into their own territory where the final battle which will decide everybody's fate will take place. Before the Allies can react the cult unleashes a spell which decimates Annwyls forces (Dragon and human a!ike), everybody is taken by surprise and with no time to react some are separated from the main forces with no clear way of reuniting and regrouping. Those left behind will have to adjust and carry on with the plan to beat Charissumund and his forces once and for all. Hoping and praying that those who are missing are still out there somewhere near by safe and in no danger. To say more would be to give spoilers suffice to say that everybody from the previous books gets an mention and have some part to play in the coming battle and don't worry as I did that this is the end of the Dragon Kin, it is merely the end of this storyline the Author does give us little teasers at the end of the book that there are more stories to come. Well worth the wait.

Loved x infinity
I loved (repeat until the word sounds weird) this book from beginning to end. Catching up with all of my favorite characters while going on an adventure was amazing. Aidan and Branwen were wonderful together, but I could see it coming from the previous book. Branwen is a fantastic character, not as great as Annwyl – who is one of my all time favorites in all of female heroine history- but she holds her own. This book should not be the first you start in the series because you will get lost. Once you start from the first book, you’ll eventually end up here because the stories are just too good to let go of. This book, like the others, was dynamic and engaging. It ruined me for other books for a few days because it was so dag on good.

Too many characters fighting for story time! Very poor!
Sadly, Ms Laurenston/G A Aiken has gone the same way here as has happened with her Pride books. Once you have built your world, how do you concentrate on just two characters as the main story? The last pride book I read (and I have now given up on that series), there were 20 to 30 named characters. Therefore, the actual romance and characterisation of the putative two leads was perfunctory at most, as well as boring and bland and predictable (ie. not worth reading). Well, the leads here have the same problem. I guess the dragon series has run out of steam(!) - unless we're going to be subjected to 'children of' - here's desperately hoping we don't get the JR Ward-style dreadfulness for that. Another author who write sub stories/full novels about her individual angel and vampire cast of characters handles this all a lot better.
