Heartfelt
Great book dealing with the social pressures that push and pull on Middle Schoolers and in this case the common bond of a TTRPG that holds 3 friends together and anchors them. Well worth the read!

Cute!
I loved this book so much that I read it all in one sitting. I love how the characters are introduced with stat blocks! It's so creative and I love it sm! I relate a lot to this book because I also started a DnD club recently in my school. Reading this book was such an experience and I would definitely recommend

Middle School can be a dungeon
Sometimes, Middle school feels like a dungeon and the bullies are the dragons that must be slain. Such is the case with this graphic novel. Jess hates navigating the labyrinth of middle school - so to cope with it, she created Sir Corius. Her bestie Olivia, is there to help her through it all - even offering to DM her games. But when Olivia wants to expand the club beyond the two of them, Jess isn't ready. Can the campaign withstand new members, jealousy and a few lurking monsters? What I loved: the transitions between the d&d campaign and reality, the art style, the diversity depicted within the plot and the positive light dungeons and dragons is portrayed. I also really liked the topics of friendship, bullying and forgiveness explored within this novel.Highly recommend for middles. I will be adding a copy to my classroom library!

Fantastic story about how friendship and imagination can improve any awful situation
Fantastic little book for anyone that loves D&D, maybe was bullied in school, and/or maybe realized they were queer.(I'm all three)The adventures and story told are about the treasures of friendship, and struggle. When life deals you a bad hand, its not always easy to overcome it. And its even harder alone.Through the trials of growing up, being bullied, and finding joy in something you genuinely love, the characters in this book find themselves and each other, and are stronger for it.This is honestly just a fun book and you don't have to be a kid to enjoy it. But also its great for kids -- after all, it was written for them! And the art is beautiful. I haven't touched on that much but I need to mention it.Also if you like D&D? This is a great way to get someone into it. It goes over some basic D&D stuff that can help anyone learning for the first time!Highly recommend.

A daring roller-coaster story about a girl who needs to broaden her horizons
Jess and Olivia had been friends for years, connecting with their favorite game, Dungeons & Dragons (a fantasy roleplaying game where imagination ruled). It's the first day of 8th grade, and things are changing a bit. Olivia wants to make a club of D&D, but Jess doesn't want to. Will Jess cope with new people joining in their adventure?Roll Call gave me a peek into the personal life of an 8th grader facing many challenges. I loved the original idea of a board game that represents what a character wants to be. The sessions of D&D are a fantastical world I'd love to visit. The monsters were lurking, and the magic was fun and way too cool. Does such an unbelievable game exist? Hopefully so!Jess has a lot to learn about making new friends. She is a highly introverted girl, so she was pretty shy about making friends other than Olivia. On the other hand, Olivia was an outgoing girl who was okay with making new friends. She is the kind of girl everyone would love.I was not too fond of Sir Corius (Jess' character in D&D); I found her as a self-centered character at first, but she quickly evolved throughout the story. The art was terrific, and I loved how the author drew Sunny (one of the characters in the game). The palette was a more down-to-earth color, and the style was cartoon styled. The theme of Roll Call is to be more lenient in making new friends. I recommend this book to anyone who loves fantasy and a good MG drama.I received a copy of this book via the publisher, and I'm reviewing it voluntarily.

A fun D& D Adventure with a lot of heart
When I saw this was coming out I knew I needed to read it. Dungeon Club: Roll Call weaves a tale of Fantasy, and the challenges a middle schooler can face. Jess, Olivia, Tyler, and the Sam’s are delightful characters with a lot of heart. The plot to this Graphic Novel is fun because you get to see a fantasy story of two siblings, and you see the friendship between two D&D characters grow before your eyes. In our world, Jess, Olivia, and Tyler are learning what it takes to fight for what you believe in, and concur bullies in Middle School. Molly Knox Ostertag writes this story with a lot of heart and passion, and the art is just fantastic. The character sheets for the profiles are a nice added touch. I recommend this for any fan of D&D. Whether you’re new to the game, or have been playing the game for years.

Fantastic book
Gave it to my 8 year old daughter today, she read it immediately then got me to read it to her. Only issue I have is one that I think is unintentional, where it presents being gay something to be ashamed of.

Fun read for a 11 year old DnD fan
My 11 year old daughter - who is just learning DnD - loved this. Fun and age appropriate. Bought this after I had accidentally bought the Vox Machina comic book just to realise how inappropriate and R rated that is.Highly recommend for 8-14 year olds.

Finally, characters who play D&D!!
I waited for years now to find a story were the protagonists are invested in TTRPGs, because it's such a great hobby to have! This one was very easy to read, sweet and fun. I loved that this is centered on friendship and highlights how playing something like D&D together serves as a great bonding element.

Kids loved it
Bought it for 7 and 10 year olds as an intro to d&d. They loved it, and wanted to make their own characters and started to get really interested in the world.

Captures the essence of D&D in a great short story
I bought this for my eldest, who is just getting interested in D&D (I play). We read it together and both thoroughly enjoyed it. I am now reading it with my youngest who wants to do everything his big brother does. The story gets to the core of what D&D is about and the fun that can be found in it by anyone. The parallel inclusivity story is also good without being in your face or preachy.I would recommend this to kids in general but particularly ones who like more grown-up comics and are curious about D&D (or for adults who wonder what on earth is it about!).We look forward to the next installment.
