The charm of a fine and delicate fancy...
Although I am a latecomer to Tanith Lee's Unicorn series I have been spellbound! This is a tale filled with majesty and edged with simple beauty and tenderness. Lee's prose is genuine and poetic, charged with peculiar qualities and unique temperaments. My favorite character, not a surprise! is the(wombat, opossum, pack rat, tazmanian devil, and thoroughly lovable), peeve. I am truly carried away and look forward to reading the rest of the series. Thank you Tanith Lee!Regards,Jenny L. Bates author, "Opening Doors: an equilog of poetry about Donkeys"

A fantasy classic
I recently re-read this book for the first time in a few years, and had forgotten how wonderful it is. Tanaquil, the Peeve and the suppporting characters are all lively and well-written, and the settings are vivid too. The humour is in the same vein as that in Lee's Wolf Tower books - which you will enjoy if you liked this. In sum, a funny, beautiful and compelling short novel that you wish were longer. The sequels are good too, but this is the best. It is criminal that these books are out of print. Don't hesitate to hunt them down.
