By now, longtime readers of my reviews know the pattern. Ten pounds of gummy bears, purchased without understanding what ten pounds was. 420 bags of identical tea, purchased in two separate transactions while actively trying to avoid that exact tea. A motorcycle headlight my motorcycle physically rejected. And now, dear friends, the saga continues. I present to you: eight beautiful carbide burrs with 1/4-inch shanks, purchased by a man who owns a Dremel with a 1/8-inch collet. For the non-tool people: that means these do not fit. They will never fit. They are double the size of the hole they need to go into. This is not a "force it and hope" situation. This is not a "maybe with an adapter" situation (okay, it technically is, but let me have my drama). I ordered precision cutting instruments for a tool I do not own. Did I check the shank size before ordering? Reader, I did not. I saw "carbide burr set," I saw that gorgeous clear box, I saw words like "deburring" and "porting" and "carving" and my brain released chemicals normally reserved for finding money in old jackets. I clicked BUY with the swaggering confidence of a man who has learned nothing — NOTHING — from his previous purchases. When they arrived, I strode to my workbench, popped open my Dremel, picked up a burr, and experienced what I can only describe as the slowest dawning realization of my adult life. I held the 1/4" shank up to the 1/8" collet the way you'd hold a basketball up to a cup holder. I stood there for a long moment. The garage was very quiet. Somewhere, a wind chime mocked me. And here is where this review reaches its emotional core: I did not return them. Why? Embarrassment. Pure, distilled embarrassment. The returns department and I already have history. I could not bring myself to initiate yet ANOTHER return conversation that begins with "so, funny story, I didn't read the listing." There is a man at a returns warehouse somewhere who knows my name, and I will not give him the satisfaction. So now these eight pristine carbide burrs live in my garage, in their lovely clear box, fitting nothing, cutting nothing, waiting. I have labeled this situation "yet" — as in, I have no use for them YET. One day I will own a die grinder with a 1/4" collet, and on that day, I will be SO ready. These burrs aren't a mistake. They're an investment in a future version of me who reads product specifications. The burrs themselves look fantastic, by the way — sharp, well-made, beautifully organized. Five stars for the burrs. They did nothing wrong. They never do. The products are never the problem. I am always the problem. And yes — Gerald. (My red gummy bear. Eaten in the pantry massacre. Forever in my heart and reviews.) Gerald also sat in a clear container, waiting for his purpose, purchased by a man who didn't read the listing. The difference is Gerald's purpose came swiftly and deliciously, while these burrs wait in their plastic tomb for a tool that does not yet exist in my garage. Sometimes I open the box and look at them, and I swear the red-coated one looks just like him. I call it Gerald II. It will never know the touch of a collet. Sleep well, sweet prince. Five stars.
