Night Drive

Don't Bother Trying to Categorize This Film
It's got some horror with gore, it's got some snarky dialogue, it's got...sci fi? And it worked so well together it was astounding. Beautifully shot, particularly the establishing shots, the filmmakers seem to love LA. The acting was top notch, each main character gradually revealing more and more about their true nature, at plot moments where each revealing made sense. Is there a moral? Well, maybe that powerful technology in the hands of bad people has evil outcomes. We certainly keep learning that lesson in the real world now, don't we? This film is a great watch and I highly recommend it - just be forewarned that the few horror-influenced moments are gore-filled, indeed. Be prepared, but the rest of it is more of a thrill ride with good banter.

Slightly Better Than Average!
This is just at the edge of watchable. Although the good guy wins in the end and the psychopath loses the night drive to get there has minimal rewards along the way. The banter almost holds but the pointless gore detracts. This is a good effort and thus a passable movie so three stars for a good effort but little shine.

What's in the box?
Russel (AJ Bowen) drives a ride share. He picks up Charlotte (Sophie Dalah) as a fare. She has money and pays him cash to go to a house and wait outside with the motor running. Yup. Seen this part before as she comes running out of the house with a box being chased. Things get worse when they hit a man in the road. The real mystery is "what is in the box" that Charlotte would risk life and limb to get? After watching this thriller-drama for nearly an hour, how about a science fiction twist? The film held my interest as I was curious about the box and Charlotte didn't seem to care about anything.Guide: F-word. No sex or nudity.

ugh
I couldn't take it and quit after 10 minutes. Bad acting, bad script.

Nice twist on a typical ride-share plot
Okay, hear me out.The movie begins with a guy (Russell) making extra money at night driving people around. He picks up a young girl (Charlotte) and she pays him 100 bucks in advance to drive her around. He drives her to a home where she grabs a mysterious small box, and they drive off quickly. They stop at a bar and do the usual verbal song and dance where we learn a bit more about them. But it's when they drive around looking at Christmas decorations when the story picks up speed because they accidentally hit a guy. On the way to drop him off at the hospital, the guy dies, and she convinces him to help her bury the guy. Shortly after that the movie takes an interesting hard left turn into science fiction when Russell asks Charlotte, what's in the box. and you know what? It actually works! (It worked for me anyway- I believed it) Thats all I can say without spoilers. All I can tell you is, trust me. Or not. We all make our own choices, yes?

Better than expected
I liked this much more than I expected to. I liked the banter between the 2 main characters. The filming was good, the acting was decent. The overall plot was weird.

Genre-bending, thoroughly unexpected and incredibly fun!
This film was a complete surprise to me in the best possible way. While I enjoy thrillers, it's not usually my film genre of choice. Night Drive goes beyond the standard thriller and incorporates more than just predictable plot twists and fear inducing tactics...it's funny, it's smartly written and the two extremely talented main actors play complex and layered characters, not to mention they have fantastic rapport together.Without giving away the main plot points I will just say, watch Night Drive! It's a fun, thought-provoking ride that doesn't insult the audience with a formularized plot structure. The film watches fast and I do wish it had been longer, but it's definitely a drive I would take again!I so look forward to seeing more from the creative team of filmmakers behind Night Drive!

Embarrassed to say I enjoyed it.
I consider this film to be a guilty pleasure. A part time driver picks up a young woman and starts having a series of bizarre and violent adventures. At the end, there is a science fiction twist to the story. It may not be a great movie, but it was a lot of fun.
