There are 2 different types. One for light fabric and one for dark. It really does matter. It won't look as good if you use the wrong one, but it will ultimately still work. Create, print with an ink jet printer, cut out, peel off back, place on fabric PRINTED SIDE UP, cover with parchment paper and iron on with the hottest or cotton setting. Secure after just 15-30 seconds. Pay special attention to the corners. Don't forget the background is white so just plain letters will need to be done on white shirts. I did lettering on a pink shirt and tried to print a pink background. It still looked great even though I was never quite able to color match the pink background to the shirt. All my projects have turned out good and I am so glad I found this product! Just to note, larger iron ons seem to hold up better in the wash than smaller ones. My very first project was an insect shirt I helped my daughter make for a school project. After a few months some of the bugs smaller than 2 inches across came off and the thin vines we ironed on started to peel off. But I have made plenty of other projects with larger iron ons that washed well over a year and my kids grew out of the clothes. I made my younger toddler daughter a few shirts with her favorite cartoon characters on them. Plenty of rough and tumble wear. I wound up donating them because they still looked great. If my memory serves it comes in the package. ( I have tried a few brands now to be honest.) This brand does not make you mirror the image. So print, cut to size, peel backing, then place the protective paper, or parchment paper, or even Teflon sheet over the image and iron. I found the Teflon is great if you have issues with it being hot enough, as it reflects/retains the heat, trapping it with the image. If you are interested in those I bought, 3 Pack PTFE Teflon Sheet for Heat Press Transfer Sheet Non Stick 16 x 20" . Can be cut to desired size. Otherwise regular parchment paper from a bakery section of a grocery store, or here on amazon, is a perfect inexpensive cover. I used it on my inkjet printer, cut the design out with an X-Acto knife, and easily peeled off the backing with no issues whatsoever. I pressed it on for 10-15 seconds on heat setting 3 (~340°F) with my new handheld, mini heat press over a thick wooden cutting board. It was my officially my first heart transfer and I couldn't be happier with the results! It was not sticky to work with, and it transferred perfectly. The quality is wonderfully thick and the colors remained vibrant.
