Awesome Rod and does what it’s supposed to. Great price
Amazing Berkeley Rod. Paired with a size 5000-7500 reel “I used an 6000” and you can shore, surf, pier or jetty fish with confidence. Love the white color it helps see big hits late at night and it’s very sturdy. Its tip is not as fast as an ugly stick but no where near as stiff as a down-rigger or jigging or trolling rod. With 20 lb line I was consistently tossing 40-60 yard casts easily with no worry of popping the line or snapping the rod with both 2 and 3oz weights and I would not hesitate to use 4oz as well. I casted bunker on large striper circle Hooks size 5/6 and 7 hooks so nice chunks and also whole squid and whole belly clams and it’s seems to cast the same distance unlike if it was a very soft fast flimsy tip which seems to cast farther with lighter bait and poor cast with heavy bait. This rod doesn’t care what on the end of the hook and cast equally impressive. Landed a larger stripper first nite out from a jetty and landed 2 huge sand sharks approaching 20lbs and the Rod handled them with ease. Ordering another one and going to pair it with a penn 7500 reel with bait runner. Just to good of a Rod to not have 2. This finishes my salt water package now with two 8’ three 7’ one 9’ and one 10’. After falling for these 8’ I’ve relegated my trusty 7’ foot rods to lure only like poppers and sp minnow and spoons. They seem to cast better with lures and the extra 1’ and stiffness of this 8’ berkley makes me feel confident that even a 40+ pound stripper is coming home with me and I’m not losing the rod or line or reel. Sometimes I don’t want to fish with a 10’ or even a 9’ Rod as they are big and clumsy and I don’t need 75-100 yard cast. 8’ is the perfect size to be nimble yet have the same ability in power as a nice 9 or 10’ with only minuscule less casting distance. It does make you feel a lot more secure versus having a 7’ which even ugly sticks and a nasty big gorilla blue or cow stripper I’ve seen them snap in two love this rod!!!! Thanks Berkley for such a great rod and I’m a customer for life

Buy these rods. They are a great value for what you get from them.
Update: I have used these rods for Cobia fishing for 4 seasons and am prepping for season 5. Not one of the rods has failed yet. I have to admit my friends took one look at these rods when they were new and expected them not to survive one season. Looking at other reviews it appears damage during shipping is the biggest problem with these rods. I have been using these rods for 3 seasons now paired with bait runner style reels exclusively fishing cut and live bait for Cobia in the Chesapeake Bay. I have 6 of them and they all have worked flawlessly catching Cobia up to 75 lbs so far. The 8’ length has worked great for getting around the outboard motor on the boat we use when fighting fish. I also have the bait caster style of this rod and they also have worked flawlessly when trolling for mackerel and bluefish. I highly recommend these rods as they are a great value for the low cost and performance that you get for that cost.

Great rod but the handle foam is all beat up.
One of two of my big game rods I ordered arrived in square cardboard box. No damage from shipping, but the foam handle is pretty beat up. To be fair I bought a pair from Walmart and returned them and ordered two here thinking that the handles will be in perfectly smooth shape. The foam handle is in worse shape than walmarts inventory. Guess what do you expect for a $29 rod? So don’t expect to get a nice smooth foam handle when it shows up, but I’m sure the rod performance will make up for it. Update, my 2nd rod showed yesterday. Some scratches off the white gel coat. Same dents in the foam. I’m sure it will fiah just fine. I’ve caught a few Bowfin with the first rod. For a big rod it’s flimsy, not sensitive, but seams strong enough that fighting fish is no chore. Even with braid on it’s not sentimental a carbon fiber type rod.

A beefy Toyota Corolla
Hard to beat for the price!! This rod isn’t anything special and that’s what I love about it. Handles up to 4oz decently, it’s a little wobbly not too stout, but perfect for cut bait fishing which is what I use it for. I’ve put this rod through it’s paces on the river striper fishing in some heavy current. Casts well enough I have it paired to a Quantim Optix 60 reel (another insane deal of a reel) with 50lb hi-vis braid. I even tried crab snaring with it, probably won’t do that again as I’m throwing at least 8oz snares BUT it handled it lol. Also we landed this nice striper on the setup and it handled well. I’d say give it a go it’s a solid go to rod for bait fishing or to let a friend use and you don’t really need to worry about it getting messed up.

Great pole
Caught quite a few fish with this pole, heavy weight, cast well, just wish it was a bit more sensitive at the top.

Good rod
This rod is good. It is a bit heavy but I'm fine with it good for in a boot and I have already pulled in a good size pike. I have 65 lb braid. The braid goes through the eyelets nicely. If you want something to cast far from the shore buy a surf rod. This rod is made for a boat

Sturdy rod
Rod is more suited for trolling or drop fishing from pier/rocks. Not ideal for casting long distance from the shore, but it'll still do the job. I found it to be sturdy and durable but a bit on the heavier side.
