Humbug Witch Paperback – September 1, 2004

This was my absolute favorite Halloween book when I was a kid. It's the cutest story and the illustrations are adorable. I was so happy to see it in print after so many years! It will be part of my Halloween collection and hopefully will bring the same joy to other littles ones as it did to me.

I'm nearly 40 years old and enjoyed this book when I was a little girl in the early seventies. Now that I have two little girls of my own, I love that this story is still around! Lorna Balian has managed to create a character that is sweet and mischievous and endearing and by the end of the story, you will find yourself with a huge smile on your face! I recall begging my mom to help me put all the special and kooky ingredients into a big pot in the kitchen to see if I could stir up some witches' brew! I won't tell you if it worked, you'll just have to see for yourself! <wink wink> Great illustrations go along with a memorable story. A must-have for any kids' library.

This is the first book I ever "owned" - I could "read" it when I was two years old. I was probably just reciting it from memory, but to this day my mother talks about this book. I was lucky enough to get a decent copy of the original hardcover last year, and it is one of my prized possessions. My two nieces, ages 5 and 3, know where this book is when they come to my house and have it read to them every time. I purchased this soft-cover edition to give to my oldest niece for Christmas.

This book is such a fun Halloween story. It is our favorite family Halloween story.

I have used this book with 4 &5 year olds as a teacher for 35 + years and they always loved it like I do!

This is a fun story for preschoolers, kindergarteners and 1st and 2nd graders. My 8th grade students dramatized the story as a Halloween treat for their 1st grade buddies. Lots of fun for the big and little kids.

This is a perfect book to read to preschoolers and kindergarteners. It has a simple storyline that holds three and four year olds interest. Nice illustrations make it a fun book to read and provide food for conversation. Grandparents, Humbug Witch is a perfect gift to give each grandchild at the Halloween party that you throw for your them.

I bought this book simply because it is attached to some of my favorite memories as a young reader. My children have grown past the age that they want to read picture books, but I can clearly remember sitting in the school library as a young girl reading this book and looking at the pictures. I HAD to have this for my classroom library! No matter what grade I wind up teaching, this will be a book that comes out in October every year. It's too cute to pass up.
