Blaupunkt Frankfurt RCM82 Retro Stereo with DAB+, USB, AUX & Bluetooth

Fitted this to my 1973 VW camper - I've had a few stereos over the years and never been happy with the modern look. This one is almost perfect - easy to select FM, AM, DAB or bluetooth and the bluetooth option is quick and uncomplicated to pair - no additional apps needed (thankfully). Almost plug and play for me, only thing I had to do was turn down the gain on my sub. Buttons are well laid out so you don't have to take your eyes off the road to select something different. Physically It's quite a shallow unit and lightweight as well. Nice touch is the connector on the unit itself which is standard ISO (rather than a proprietary connector block). There's a pair of ISO connectors with bare ends included as well. Took ten minutes to fit and looks fantastic, menus are intuitive and parameters easy to change. There's no CD player but it can play micro SD cards so it's just a case of using them instead. Yes it's expensive compared to some other units on the market, but it looks classy, sounds great and the sheer simplicity of the layout is well worth the price.

Superb bit of kit and worth the money . Classic retro looks that suit my classic car perfectly but with fantastic sound ( I have it connected up to a Pioneer 160w under-seat subwoofer) . Proper buttons mean I can get to all the most frequently used features immediately without having to cycle through menus and take my eyes off the road. Connectivity is brilliant with 2 USB A ports ( front and remote) , a Micro SD card , 3.5mm Aux socket and Bluetooth . It integrates really well with my Samsung S23 , connected via BT I can be listening to my tunes via the SD card and with google maps on my phone for navigation the music is briefly muted whilst my directions come through the cars speakers at a separate volume of my choice - Brilliant !!

Expensive for a stereo but I took the chance. It’s just what I wanted and looks great in my 98 defender. The blue tooth and phone features work very well and the sound is great. Unfortunately the display was faulty on the unit and no replacement was offered!! I got another one from eBay and it’s perfect!

Can't wait to have this put in my 190e cosworth. Looks amazing but still a bit pricey hence the dropped star.

Brilliant unit and short chassis which is ideal for a Golf 2 where the radio 's limited mounting depth can be restrictive, especially with RCA plugs sticking out the back.

Works great, looks the part and connected to Iphone easily. I do think that 50 watts per channel is a bit optimistic though!

The stereo is great. The only problem is you can’t use the USB at the rear of the stereo for any charging. As you get horrendous digital interference through the speakers. I have now wired up a separate charger for the phone and the stereo carries on being great

This head unit is a dream come true. I have a 2001 BMW Z3 that the previous owner had put a JVC unit in that seemed like a light show. I blinked and strobed to the music and was more than annoying. The Blaupunkt has the period look for the car and is packed with modern features. I got some new speakers and the whole system sounds great.

Das Gerät kam pünktlich und gut durch Amazon verpackt an. Es passt in den klassischen DIN1 Schacht. Zum Einbau in einen BMW E36 (EZ 1993) habe ich, um die bestehende Verkabelung zu nutzen, ein Kabelbaum aus dem Angebot von Amazon (Red Wolf Autoradio Stereo Kabelbaum) gekauft. Dieser funktionierte sofort einwandfrei. Für den DAB Empfang habe ich über einen Splitter (bei Amazon gekauft, Eightwood DAB+ Antenne SMB) ) die Originalantenne verbunden. Der Empfang ist hervorragend. Allerdings muss die Spannung für den Splitter gesondert im Blaupunkt Frankfurt geschaltet werden. Dazu muss man sich durch das Menü klicken. Allerdings erspart man sich so den gesonderten Stromanschluss (zB über die Zündung). Die Farbeinstellung des Displays kann farblich exakt der gegebenen Farbe des BMW angepasst werden. Der Sound kann über viele Einstellungsmodi individualisiert werden oder alternativ über einen hinterlegten Sound festgelegt werden. Der Equalizer ist ebenfalls sehr gut gelungen. Natürlich hängt der Klang auch von den im PKW verbauten Lautsprechern ab. Die meisten Funktionen des Radios sind einfach einzustellen. Das, was man nicht intuitiv erledigen kann, läßt sich über die Bedienungsanleitung lösen. Diese finde ich wenig nutzerunfreundlich geschrieben. Hier geht eindeutig mehr. Die Verbindung zum Smartphone (bei mir Apple) funktionierte sofort. Einmal hinterlegt, finden sich die beiden Geräte ohne weitere Aktivitäten wieder, sofern Bluetooth zB über den eigenen Schaltknopf gewählt wird. Die Telefonfunktion habe ich bislang nicht gebraucht/genutzt. Das Blaupunkt Frankfurt paßt optisch perfekt als Retro-Radio in die frühen Neunziger und kopiert optisch das damalige Blaupunkt Frankfurt. Der ehemalige CD Schacht wurde für weitere, externe Anschlüsse umfunktioniert. Den USB Anschluss ist besonders nützlich. Ob man noch über die AUX Steckverbindung zB einen externen CD Player anschließt, kann ich nicht beurteilen. In Zeiten von Musik auf dem Smartphone benötige ich dieses Feature also nicht. Die externen Anschlüsse auf der Rückseite des Blaupunkt Frankfurt nutze ich nicht. Fazit: sehr guter DAB Empfang über die alte, passive Antenne. Sehr gutes Design und toller Sound. Einmal eingestellt, freue ich mich über ein hervorragendes Radio. Klare Empfehlung, denn es ist sein Geld wert und sieht gerade im Oldtimer aufgrund seines Designs um Längen besser aus als die Konkurrenz.
