LOVE IT.
I got a back up cam separate . I couldn’t be happier . Sound is amazing . Back up cam goes on in reverse automatic . Get in the car it connects automatic to car play with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on but you can turn off Bluetooth right away and it still plays. Long story short you can customize the sound . It has screen off / music playing option . Auto brightness screen. NO WIRES . which is the best part . What else , one thing I don’t like it takes about 3 seconds to start playing next song . Loads on screen right away but music playing there’s a tiny buffer ……. Idk if that’s just me or what . But can’t complain over all. UPDATE - years later I still love it !!!! The “ issue “ is 95% of the time it’s amazing. The 5% is connection issues - WHAT IVE LEARNED - cheat codes lol. So when you hop out of your car and leave it running it stays connected , and when you get back in it should play automatically . It doesn’t always do that. IF YOU PAUSE THE SONG BEFORE YOU GET OUT with ( car still running ) and get back in and hit play on either screen or phone - it works much better connection wise that way . OTHERWISE - 5% of the time it will totally kick you off connection wise . WHAT I LEARNED . it will try to connect to Bluetooth which is fine whatever I use car play - but when car play isn’t auto connecting or it kicks you off . If you stay in your car and keep going back and forth forget device reconnect device praying car play will pop up . It won’t . ( usually ) - WHAT I DO . I hold down the home button for 10 seconds fully shut it off , instead of asleep . THEN - this is the best part . For whatever reason - I have to open my car door . LOCK & UNLOCK THE DOORS WITH MY KEYS . So it thinks I got out of the car or left . FOR WHATEVER reason . You have to like reset it or make Sony Purr - by locking & unlocking your car doors. BOOM CAR PLAY CONNECTION WORKS FIRST TIME EVERY TIME . If not you’ll be in and endless loop of Bluetooth connection - back and forth screaming at your car / head unit . Lmfao . Trust me I get it . Hope those cheat codes help . They really do work . Makes no sense but fully works . Lock and unlock your car doors however you want to . And then it will car play again . Again 95% of the time it’s been amazing for me personally . Hit voice button - call mom , or text mom for example - we all know that yes . ALSO - my steering wheel controls couldn’t be connected - so I’m happy af not complaining. At all pic is great BOSE speakers are great . It connects to my stock Bose speakers flawlessly . Point being IF you want a VOLUME knob , your steering wheel options may or may not be compatible . Soooooooo be prepared for that . NO KNOB FOR VOLUME . I know we all see that - just think about that as you’re driving if you want buttons to hit or if you want an easy knob to turn . Sounds basic af . But some ppl may end up hating not having a knob , etc . Just think about it that’s all . 💜💜💜

Amazing!!!
I have a 1991 Toyota mr2 and replaced an aftermarket Pioneer head unit with this one. The Pioneer didn’t have Apple car play and was a bit of a pain to navigate to play music from my phone so I decided on the Sony as a replacement. The Sony has built in car play which makes it so much easier to navigate music and it gives you navigation capabilities as well using the phone. Car play is wireless, which is awesome and the connection is easily established every time I turn on the car (it is automatic). Sound quality is fantastic. I am not running an amp but honestly I don’t need to because the sound is excellent. My front speakers are JBL club series (6 1/2), while the two small rear speakers are infinity reference speakers (4 1/2). The sound is amazing without having to use an amp. Adjustments are easy, you can set the specific fade you want and even set the eq how you want as well to get that “just right” sound. Some other great features: you can set your own splash screen, but to do so I had to buy a usb c to usb adapter to plug in a flash drive because I didn’t have a usb c flash drive and the cord supplied that plugs into the back of the unit is a usb c to usb c. It also has an hdmi input but the cord is not supplied, believe it is a mini hdmi. I didn’t use one because I’m not watching videos on the head unit. It is very easy to turn off and on, just hold the home button down and that powers the unit off. I actually use this because I have an old school automatic antenna that goes up when the radio is on, so going through a car wash can be a pain but this turns the whole thing off easily and quickly to lower the antenna. The phone features are good as well. Sound of calls is clear, interface to call is easy to use. The major con- you can’t get rid of the stupid clock graphic from the middle of the screen. Getting use to it but honestly I’m mainly in car play when driving so it isn’t that bad because the whole screen becomes the Apple screen anyway. Things I wish they had options for: 1. Removing the clock graphic. It isn’t all that bad but should still be an option to remove. Besides, there is a small clock in the corner anyway when not using car play so why they put two clock graphics is mystery. 2. Wish there was a way to turn off power to the antenna so it doesn’t go up when using car play. Most modern cars won’t have this problem but line is a 1991, and way back then auto antennas were all the rage. 3. Better tech support. I had to search all over to see if there was a way to disable the clock graphic and to see what options were available for the antenna, their web site is about useless. Some suggestions for install: I used a wire harness that connects to my factory harness which made install easier. If you are not great at soldering or are not comfortable with soldering, there are excellent adapters that have a bit of solder in the tube and you use a heat gun to melt the tube and the solder to the wires. I tried these and install was a breeze and the connection are fantastic. Took about 5 seconds per wire. Attaching the parking brake wire in the MR2 is a pain, so I added that wire to the ground wire and it worked perfectly so I didn’t have to dismantle the entire car to attach that one wire. There is a wire that attached to the car’s electronic speed sensor, on my 91, that wire is either non-existent or is hidden so I didn’t attach that and it works fine. Believe that is used for car navigation but mine has worked fine. There is also a cord and small antenna for gps that has to be attached. It comes with self adhesive that gets attached to a supplied metal plate. That metal plate also has self adhesive that you then attach to your car. The adhesive sucks so I just stuffed it as far into my dash as I could so it was lodged and would come out- works fine. Then instructions are lacking, but stuffing the gps into the dash worked for me because the adhesive doesn’t stick to plastic, or metal, or any other surface. I contemplated gorilla glue but found a place where It fit and wouldn’t come loose. Overall, excellent head unit, great sound, great features, pretty easy install if you have ever installed a radio, and the sound- can’t say enough about the quality. In my car it is amazing!

Excellent head unit, but not perfect
The Sony XAV-AX6000 is an excellent stereo head unit. This is a wonderful solution if you want a larger, double DIN screen but own a car that has a single DIN slot. This was the exact use case for my car, but I ended up modifying the stereo to extend the touchscreen with a longer ribbon cable, and a 3D-printed bezel to make everything fit and look as stock as possible. Pros: - Wireless Apple CarPlay is incredible. I can't imagine owning a car without it now - Stereo and hardware/buttons look very sleek - iDataLink Maestro compatible - Has USB-C connectivity, so should work with charging newer iPhones - Setup and menus/settings are intuitive - Stereo & CarPlay boots up quickly - Touchscreen is snappy and very responsive. As responsive as a regular smartphone I would say. Surprises/Concerns: - If your viewing angle isn't dead-center, the screen has a lot of glare, even in indirect sunlight. I searched everywhere and there doesn't seem to be any brightness setting to mitigate this. Just have to live with it. - Steering controls were shoddy at best. I hooked up all the wiring that came with this unit to my car, and the controls worked maybe half the time. Sometimes restarting my car would fix it, sometimes not. I had to purchase the iDataLink Maestro ADS-MSW, and it now works 100%. - Not necessarily a con, but more of a surprise to me personally: to get Wireless CarPlay working, you have to hook up and mount a separate GPS antenna to the head unit. It's not a huge deal since it's small/sleek and comes with mounting tape so you can easily mount it somewhere on the dash near the windshield, but I wasn't really expecting it. I tried running the stereo without it and CarPlay would absolutely not work. Not perfect, but the best stereo I've come across for my needs and would highly recommend this to anyone in a similar situation looking to upgrade their single DIN unit!

Can’t wait to have this installed In my 2016 Chevy Colorado.
I have only seen my neighbors Sony AX6000 & really liked the crispness and brightness of the display as well as also like the finger tracking and the non-glare surface was really nice as well, I have a sunroof in my truck which is always open and the tiny 3-1/2 screen is nearly impossible to see, let alone read. And my Neighbrs has a huge panoramic roof and you can see & read this screen in direct sunlight as well so, I decided I would buy the same one he has and have it installed in my truck (which currently only has Am & Fm, it’s a work truck and does not work with phones). I had looked at a few other ones at Best Buy prior to buying the AX6000 here, but some of their prices were ridiculous and really didn’t like the finger swiping being kind of feeling herky/jerky when navigating. And not to mention, half of their display ones weren’t even turned on so I just thought that was pretty much pointless as who the heck is going to buy a $1,000 Radio that you can’t even test. Not me, that’s for sure. I ordered this almost a month ago, I still haven’t opened it or installed it yet. It takes some time to gather all of the other correct bits & pieces for the shop installing it to actually install all of it. I’m only doing it this way was to save a little more off the full installation as some of their pieces were pretty expensive. With that in mind so far, I’ve easily knocked $600 off the complete installation which will be shortly, toward the end of September, It will be so nice to have truck that actually has hands free, Apple carplay & Bluetooth. Can’t wait! So far so good, The Sony AX6000 head unit arrived overnight as it should, without a scratch on the packaging. As well as most of the other parts so far, so I will take it all as a good sign. New Infinity Kappa speakers all the way around to replace all of the old blown factory speakers. Matching Infinity 8 channel to run them. The iDatalink Maestro for GM is here as well & a few other pieces. Ordered the new bezel for the AX6000’s screen size, but they sent the wrong color and am waiting on the correct Gray one to arrive instead of the black one they sent but that is on back order (figures) I will add some more pics and details as well as a video when it all gets installed at our local guru’s shop in town. Update 1, after installation: … So far so good. It’s sound is unbelievable compared to the original radio and I’m not sure why a lot of people say it doesn’t get bright enough. I’ve only been driving with it for a few days now and is way brighter than my old stock radio ever was & the backup image is far more crisp as well. I always thought my original camera was going bad from age and was going to replace it, Wrong! The camera was fine, it was the original factory radio that was washed out. And I’m rally loving the extra HDMI & USB-C ports. Sometimes it’s nice to throw my USB stick that has 30,000 music files on it as well as a few videos & movies as well. The sound & picture directly via USBc 3.2 sounds far better than when using car play. So for that I made 2 different custom EQ’s to tailor each one. And, it’s also nice to use USBc for CarPlay which leaves the Bluetooth empty to hopefully use a simple Bluetooth audio controller as well (if I can find one). And I think I am going to invest $30 to find the Remote Commander (Rm-x400) as the only drawback I’ve run into so far is quickly turning down the volume & the old IR remote for this would really fit that void very well & I have the perfect place to put it under the armrest to use those buttons (my Colorado doesn’t have volume controls on the wheel).

Never again will I buy Sony
Update: After only two years the screen is delaminated and a button has come off. Contacted customer service and even though the issues should be covered, Sony has decided to go against their warranty that comes inside of the box and are make fictitious claims. I will never buy a Sony product after over 20 years of being a loyal customer. I bought this as a replacement for my stock unit out of my 2003 Ranger Edge after an unfortunate span of bad luck with lightning. With a fd16b wiring harness, fmk552 double din dash kit, open barrel crimps, heat shrink and a dremel, you have yourself a well made and awesome unit! It really does take your system to a new level. I can’t wait for my JBL stadium 862F speakers to come in and replace my front and rear oem speakers. I thought my bad luck struck again but I think it was the perfect push for me to upgrade my system after owning the truck for 15 years. The Apple CarPlay works well and I’m glad I don’t have to rely on my phone or gps mounts on a long trip. I noticed that the screen has a protective layer on it that seems to cause a resolution problem but the screen still looks great. The film looks easy enough to remove but I’ll choose to keep it on for extra insurance. If you are like me and use those little magnetic inserts for magnetic charging chords or can’t stand your gps mounted to your dash or windshield, then the extra money you pay for the wireless CarPlay is a must have!

Fantastic CarPlay radio. But the price is steep.
While I absolutely love this radio, it only lasted me a few months before I ended up purchasing a new car. I installed this in a 2003 Buick Century Custom, it not only has Bluetooth Connectivity, and the ability to add USB ports, the radio also has wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The quality definitely felt beyond the price I paid, there was strong base, as well as easy ability to play music from YouTube and Apple Music. This radio will fit very easily into any car with a double din mounting connection. The space where all the ports are happen to be on a single din, giving the other half to tuck your cables through. Therefore it can fit easily into any space. Whether restricted or not. It can also be hooked in with a backup camera but I didn’t use this function. Aside from that I eventually ended up removing the radio from the car because a few months after buying and installing the radio, I ended up trading the car in and I wasn’t going to trade the car in with the fancy radio to the dealer. But aside from that, this is a fantastic radio and I highly recommend it.

Wireless CarPlay does not work.
This head unit sounds great and easy to install. Bluetooth connection works every time, but wireless Apple CarPlay will not work. I’ve updated the firmware both on the unit and on my phone, tried several iPhones, but no avail. Wired CarPlay is not an option, so most of the features you buy this unit for, are useless. Unfortunately, I’ve installed this past the return timeline living overseas APO, and stuck with it.

Eh
So if youre looking at this you're probably like me- I want wireless car play/ Android auto and some of the higher end features cheaper alternatives are missing like a bright, better screen. Brightness being something I see so many people complaining about on aftermarket units, I wanted this for the capacitive screen in hopes that wouldn't be an issue. Well it does meet my expectations though it's still not bright. I painted two gift cards black and shoved them into the bezel to act as a sun shade but even with 15% tint in my truck it's still pretty dim; not bad though I can still see it. Okay so what's the deal with these head units and android auto in general? I have a S21 Ultra and the audio clips in and out, something I've read a lot of similar stories on OEM or aftermarket. You'd think, being such a great selling point for newer vehicles and units like this they'd figure it out, right? Carplay seems to work just fine wireless but android, not so much. I'll most likely end up using this unit wired. Ouch, just paid a load of money for that and I can't use it. Unit that's wired only is half as much. So genuinely think about that before you buy this thing. No second camera input? Seriously? $100 Boss unit that I took out had that, and steering wheel controls. Fix that Sony! So some positives. This thing looks excellent in the car. I mean seriously nobody got the memo that clean minimalist design is in and goddy early 2000s need for speed died years ago? The UI is very nice on the eyes. And the unit looks comparable to some auto makers OEM units. This thing never fails to pair to my phone. Bang on every time, and it's super quick. The sound is pretty good too. My set up is very simple and balanced. Some JBL 6x8s in the doors, and Rockford fosgate shallow 12" sub powered by a JBL monoblock in my 07 F150. I expected a bump in fidelity over the cheap Boss unit that was in the truck before but this thing is so smooth on the highs and mids. It's the amp and dac that's built in and the ability to stream flac and alac. Just more information making it to the speakers. Life lesson, this will always be the case for any audio interface. Give it more information and it'll smooth the "fatigue" right out of the system, if you catch my drift. Audiophile? Eh, audio is extremely subjective. But the volume I can push before this pains me is far higher than before, that's a good sign, not necessarily something I indulge in though. The unit itself, is for the most part pretty snappy getting around (outside of android auto). It's about as fast as you'd expect but seriously, going at the rate we are, it'll be the 22nd century before these units respond as well to finger presses as our current phones. You should expect a slight delay. This is pretty much all head units and OEM nav units (I've worked at a dealership and tried most automakers). All in all this thing is pretty cool. Irritated that it costs Sony probably $3 more to make an 8" or 9" unit but they'll charge hundreds more. I'm irritated that head units are still miles behind OEM, and OEM is miles behind a phone that came out 10 years ago (no for real an iphone 5 is faster than most nav systems I've used). And I'm irritated most importantly that Android auto wirelessly is a joke (in my case, your mileage may vary). Would I buy this for a second car? No way. Id try something else out, or if available I'd swap in a factory system.

Excellent Head Unit with Great Features
After installing the Sony XAV-AX6000 in my car, I’m thoroughly impressed with the overall quality and performance. First off, the design is sleek and modern, with a clean, minimal look that fits seamlessly into my dashboard. It has a premium feel, and the capacitive touch screen is incredibly responsive, making it super easy to navigate through menus, apps, and settings without any lag. One of the standout features for me is the 5V pre-out. If you're an audiophile or looking to boost your sound system, this feature makes a noticeable difference by allowing a cleaner, more powerful signal to external amplifiers. The sound quality is definitely enhanced, making it an ideal choice for anyone serious about getting the best audio performance from their setup. In terms of build quality, the XAV-AX6000 feels solid and durable, like a high-end product you’d expect from Sony. It doesn’t feel flimsy or cheap, and I appreciate that it holds up well over time. The installation process was straightforward, especially with the clear and easy-to-follow instructions provided. Even if you’re not an expert at car audio installations, you should be able to follow along with no issues. Now, while this head unit is definitely on the pricier side, I believe it’s well worth the investment. The combination of premium design, superb functionality, and top-tier sound quality justifies the cost. If you’re looking for a high-performance, reliable head unit, the XAV-AX6000 is an excellent choice. Overall, I’m extremely satisfied with this purchase, and I’d highly recommend it to anyone looking for a high-quality head unit for their vehicle.

Awesome receiver
Looks great. Probably one of the cleanest looking aftermarket stereos. Great stereo upgrade that doesn’t look like aftermarket stereos from the 90s. CarPlay works good and I love the customizable background option.

Great ...except for 1 thing missing
It's lightyears ahead of the stock stereo from my 2009 Ram 2500... mostly. I love how sleek the layout is. The analog clock is clean looking. Wireless Carplay is great. My only complaint would the RADIO! There's nearly zero settings within the radio. It rarely displays RDS (Radio Data System) information such as what artist/song is playing over the air, which my stock dodge ram radio did. I miss seeing what new song is playing... I wouldn't complain but this thing was $800! and should be better than a stereo that is over 14 years old. If that's a deal breaker, then avoid this unit... though it's otherwise one of the best looking units I found. I drove my wife crazy for weeks researching, and I missed this because NO ONE mentions that RDS is flaky! I did see the artist and song flash by 'once' so I'm not 100% sure why, but it seems to only display the radio station call letters via RDS.
