Amazing, insightful package
The breadth and depth of this work is amazing. Meticulously researched and referenced, Suler takes the reader on a journey through every imaginable facet of "online", from the early experiences to the latest of VR and even venturing to the discussion of whether therapists will be replaced with AI at some point.I've been online since 1990s, and seen a lot - this book still provided me with a ton of insights to others and even myself, how and why we behave online as we do.A fascinating read if you're at all interested in how people are using the Internet and how it impacts them. Don't let the old-fashioned cover fool you - this work is very much up to date. Also some terminology might sound a bit weird, like his usage of the word "onliner", but these are insubstantial issues.

Information Professionals, Educators to Parents This is a Must Read
As a professional in the Information Security and Online Content World for almost 30 years Dr. Suler's book is a must-have if you want to understand the organic composition of our digital and online personalities. Law Enforcement, Educators, Parents and even children should better understand why we do things online or electronically that we would never do in a face-to-face environment. The book closely follows his groundbreaking 2004 work "The Online Disinhibition Effect.." I have personally embraced this concept when I develop technology and protocols for uses as divergent as battling online piracy to identifying online Human Traffickers. I not only use it in my business life, more importantly I use it as a parent.

Extraordinary insight
This is a highly valuable book for anyone wanting to gain insights into the interaction between technology and humanity. Prof Suler is an educator, and this book in parts reads like a psychology textbook. In part that is why I bought it, to understand this topic better in order to help others. Prof Suler's insights as a world leader in this field are extraordinary. My biggest issue with this book is how long it will take me to read it. Even in a simple sentence, Prof Suler's insight can leave me thinking for hours and sometimes, days. I hope you find it as fascinating and valuable.

A fascinating book
I purchased this book (Kindle version) the day it came out, eagerly anticipating its release. I'm not a psychologist, and you don't need to be to read this fascinating book. In my line of work, online child protection, it is essential reading. Science is really starting to make a significant contribution to understanding behaviour online, showing that our normal behaviours can sometimes change as a result of using technology. When it comes to educating children, helping parents, speaking with teachers, this understanding is a vital component. When I speak in schools, I always state that 'what' children and young people are doing online is not always relevant, but 'why' they are doing it is the most important aspect; if we can understand the why, we can help with the what, and it's thanks to the likes of John Suler that we are really starting to understand this now.

Just personal observations and philosophies
This is one of a zillion books that describes some aspects of the internet using 'psychology' as a keyword. One would expect a psychology professor to have some insights from research about why people act as they do online, but if he did, he kept them as a secret Not surprisingly, the bibliography is very short.

A useful read for internet enthusiasts
Timely book but don't overestimate the amount of attention you have for something with few illustrations and lots of text.
