So much more than an MM romance
I bought this book as it was recommend as a book that is not just about being gay but “gay characters doing cool [stuff]”. That review doesn’t do the story justice - it’s so much more than. The plot twists, character development and writing style make it a very easy read where you can quite easily lose yourself in their world.

Fun, quick read that leaves me with some questions
Ambrose is a fun character to follow. Although I have serious doubts how he is equipped or mentally capable of the mission ahead of him: when he wakes up, he is alone for less than 24 hours and already freaks out. If the process of selecting him was so arduous, I expect more? (also, this is why you wouldn’t leave a mission like that to teenagers).Never mind the fact that “sending two teenagers on a long space mission by themselves” is a daft idea, most jobs necessary to keep the ship running seem to fall to Kodiak. If you’ve read some sci-fi before, some of the twists and turns won’t surprise you all that much, but they are a lot less dark than I thought they would be.The centre of the story really is the developing relationship between Ambrose and Kodiak. It is quite sweet at points but I can see why these two would have to be in complete isolation to find their way to each other…I have some questions left for world-building but none that will distract too much from the story. The state of the spaceship towards the end of the book is a warning: do not take plants or animals where they don’t belong, invasive species are a menace!Rounding up to four stars.

Such an intelligent YA Sci-fi read 👨🚀👨🚀
***This is NOT an M/M romance, this is first and foremost a YA Sci-fi story 🚀🚀, and a darned good one at that. Not every single story has to be a romance in this genre [the world would be VERY boring indeed if that were the case 🙄], so if that's your main reason for reading this one, I'd politely suggest you go and grab yourselves another story 📚📚.***Such an engaging read; intelligent, sad in parts and hugely thought-provoking too. Can we automatically have faith in Artificial Intelligence in the future? Should you always trust what you can see in front of your eyes? This story would suggest a resounding NO.

A beautiful book
Incredibly entertaining, incredibly compelling, incredibly heartbreaking in the best of ways, it's one of the best queer sci-fi novels that I've read and I fully recommend it to anyone who asks!

Suitable for older adults too
I’ve never written a book review before, but I’ve just finished reading this and I simply loved it. A sci-fi, queer story of friendship, love and survival. I thoroughly enjoyed it and can’t wait for the sequel

A terrific concept executed almost flawlessly
I loved most of this book but the ending felt rushed and a bit forced.
