Works great!!! Awesome device.
I just went to order another one of these, and I can't find it on the internet at all. WHAT HAPPENED? This is the best cane and gripper I've ever used. I hope they didn't go under.

MY NEW BEST FRIEND
Writing product reviews is not my avocation. Never do I begin critiquing an item upon its arrival Nor is there any sense of urgency about sharing an opinion. Not so with the Handy Cane!. I bought it in expectation of all the virtues claimed by the manufacturer; and chiselled in stone into the product description. The 16 reviews and a 4.5 star rating provided the impetus to Buy it Now & GET IT SOONER.. So when I found the box on my porch one evening, I tore into it without a thought of unlocking the door and entering the house. It came out handle first I grimaced. The plastic handle seemed flimsy & brittlel. I visualized one fall onto a hard floor shattering it. As the shaft emerged, again, the materials seemed to me inadequate to the expected tasks. The cane bending under my weight was easily imagined, & seemed imminent. Then finally, it was out of the box; and with its jaws locked I took a short stroll. It rattled!! The cheap, tinny, rattling of "made without care" No sound of the firm thunk or solid thump I had become accustomed to with other canes. Had I bought a piece of junk? .............. FAST FORWARD: 11 days later........... Allow me to tell you about my new best friend. The non-adjustable height of the medium length falls right into my cane wheelhouse. It is fractions of an inch off my ideal position. My buddy picks up everything from credit cards flat on the floor to full 1.2 liter plastic bottles of olive oil, to tools from my tool box The sliding lock that enables the jaws is sturdy, quick, & effort free. The trigger action smooth and predictable. In short, the Handy Cane does everything it is claimed to do. My reservations? Relieved for the most part. It supports my 187 pounds well; & it has even kept me on my feet in a stumble & fall moment during which I put my full weight on the aluminum pole. It has simply shrugged off the effort required to stop an elevator door in its tracks & convince it to reopen The plastic handle has survived numerous drops, including those onto a stone tile kitchen floor.& a headfirst slide down an 11 step wooden staircase. About that rattle, however. It is never, ever, going away. The mechanics inside the cane, the exterior release mechanism, and the split handle to allow for the trigger, are not going to be silenced. I accept this; Implicitly When a thumping cane is needed for authoritatively announcing my arrival at a business meeting, out will come a vintage hardwood. When taking a long walk, a quiet ultra light will do nicely When dressed in formal attire the (yet to be found) intricately etched sword cane will be brandished in protection of my date For ALL other purposes, this is my buddy. And a very capricious one too! It has offered potato chips to kids in line at the market; snatched pointe shoes away from ballerinas in the rehearsal studio; pulled weeds in the garden, & impressed a coworker sufficiently that she ordered one for her dad. It has yet to shag a fly ball at National's Park; but that may be because it has not been to a ball game I am thoroughly looking forward to adventures with my new best friend

Correction: Do not need to hold handle to keep grabber retracted
I originally gave this three stars because the only way I could keep the grabber retracted was by holding tightly on to the can handle.. No instructions came with the cane and I kept looking for a release button. Eventually, I discovered that pulling the bottom sleeve while holding the handle activates or hides the grabber. (Duh! Seems to be the right response.) Anyway, that serendipitous discovery makes the cane a very useful gadget. The cane is a wonderful idea โ with one significant drawback. I can understand the reason the one-star reviews mostly point to the cane breaking. In order to retract the grabber, one has to hold the handle tightly closed. I has assumed there was a release button or similar. If someone does not have the strength to keep the handle tightly closed, the grabber releases to one or extent or another. Not for people without average strength and the focus to remember to grab the handle tightly.

The internal squeeze handle mechanism doesn't last
I have really bad vertigo from a brainstem stroke. I use this cane as a tool to help me find my center of gravity and counter balance to help me prevent loss of balance falls. I followed the guide for size, I'm 5"3' with a 30" pant inseam, and got a small. I returned it for a medium, because I needed more length, I was bending over too much when I walked with it. Now it is awesome. I have good days and bad days with vertigo, and it has really helped me "navigate the ground" and especially pick up things off the ground that I drop or need to pick up. It's a lot of fun to pretend it's a shotgun then squeeze the handle to open the cane's claws as if it's a snapping turtle. But the lower rubber tip and heavy duty opening is great, I'm really clumsy, always dropping stuff, my open purse contents, pens, scissors, and miss the trashcan trying to make 3pointers. I have picked up coins, cards, paper, charge-cords, my broken screen phone, even stud earrings, and also have used it to reach over head for a gallon of bleach, canned food, bottled water. It is really sturdy and works better than any store bought reacher/grabber tool, plus it's a cane, and pretend shotgun toy.... Awesome. My only complaint, is that the mechanism inside wears out quickly less than a year and this is my second time purchasing this. I don't know if the manufacturer could fix my old one or not. It would be nice to have one in every room, kind of like my cheater reading glasses, I seem to loose track of where I leave it laying around.

The best most functional cane ever!
This cane is functionally amazing. I'd been searching for a new reacher/grabber and they all seemed to come up short. I'd also been in the market for a new cane and was dreading having to keep two separate devices close at hand. Then I found the Handy Cane and read the reviews, it was the solution to my needs. This cane is sturdy, comfortable in my hand, lightweight and best of all it is the best, strongest and most accurate grabber/reacher I've ever used. Just the other day I was shopping and needed a couple of cans of soup that were far back on the top shelf well out of anyone's reach, I picked up this cane slid back the shaft grip which engaged and opened the jaws of the reacher, I lifted the cane up and over the store shelf squeezing the handle and securely grabbed the can and put it in the cart. No one could have done this without climbing on a stepstool. It also picks up very fine objects like coins, jewelry and paper with ease. Quite the conversation piece too. I highly recommend the Handy Cane.

Handle issues
I've bought multiple of these for me and my mother. The cane is great. It's very sturdy and the reacher does a great job. The only problem is where the handle goes into the barrel. It breaks or comes loose right in that area. Otherwise it's a great product.

Surpasses All Expectations!
I seldom review products anymore; however, the handy cane has impressed me so much that I feel compelled to do so. The thing I like the most about it is of course the grabber. It may be the best grabber that Iโve ever used and I have used several over the years, all of which Have either broken or failed to adequately grasp objects efficiently. The handy cane is able to pick up a flat credit card, coins, Pop cans both empty and full, Dropped keys, etc. I was skeptical when I first purchased the cane thinking it would be too flimsy, But itโs not. The cane is substantial when when the grabber extension is retracted And fully supports my weight (250 lbs) as well as any solid and fully supports my weight as well as any solid Cane. One shortcoming concerning the handycane is the failure of the manufacturer, producer, promoters of the product to warn users not to try to walk or put weight on the cane when the grabber tip is in the extended position. The inevitable result of doing so is to break the grabber tip, as the one star reviewers Obviously found out. A warning probably should be placed on the cane itself.

so easy to use
I loved this item; it was extremely helpful. Unfortunately, i left it at a doctor's office miles from home. I was heartbroken. Amazon has not had these in stock for years.
