Product Description Waltons, The: The Complete Third Season (DVD) .com The Waltons: The Complete Third Season finds series creator Earl Hamner's running story about the proud, Depression-era family living and working on Walton's Mountain going through some changes. The big news is that oldest son John-Boy (Richard Thomas) is now a freshman at Boatwright University, pursuing his dream of becoming a writer but encountering a lot of tough challenges and distractions. Still living at home but driving to classes every day, John-Boy gets an unpleasant taste of hazing from arrogant upperclassmen, grief from impatient professors, insecurity in a competitive writing class, and an ever-broadening sense of how the other half lives through exotic, quirky, yet sometimes sweet and attractive young women he meets on campus. Meanwhile, John-Boy's father, John Walton (Ralph Waite), nurses a dream of opening a father-and-son-operated lumber mill, knowing full well that the very busy John-Boy can't do much without sacrificing his education. (John also discovers next-in-line son Jason (Jon Walmsley) is already dreaming about his own career beyond the mountain.) Walton mom Olivia (Michael Learned) looks wistful over the speed with which her children are growing up, and Grandpa (Will Geer) tries to do his part for the family's well-being within the limits of his age and rocky health. The Complete Third Season starts powerfully with a story about Walton kin, living elsewhere on the mountain, who refuse to leave their generations-long home in an eminent domain struggle with the government. Glimpses of the world Grandpa grew up in--full of moonshine, guns, and hardheaded men and women--abound in this fascinating episode. Other dramas concern heart problems for Grandpa; a runaway crisis when Jim-Bob (David W. Harper) bolts from home; a proper (and long-delayed) wedding for formerly eloped couple John and Olivia; a horse race that's supposed to be fun but takes on greater dimension; and troubles for John-Boy with a femme fatale and Boatwright's flawed honor code. --Tom Keogh

Love The Waltons
I might be one of the few people in the world that never saw The Waltons when it was originally on and just started watching it. I always thought it was some sugary sweet show like The Brady Bunch or something, but it is far from that it is very well written and tackles a lot of subjects even from the 1930s. It just makes you feel good to watch it. It is really helps with the stress during this pandemic as it takes you back to a much simpler happy time. I did not live in the 1930s but I wish I would have. Regardless when I watch it I can get away from everything that's going on right now and everybody needs that.I have not taken this out-of-the-box yet but I have season 1 and season 2 already and I really enjoy them. I hope this one is okay and plays right. I know the content will be greatOne of the ironic things however about The Waltons is since I just got into watching it on TV once a day, I didn't realize at the end of season 5 John Boy leaves. Plus the story shifts and starts to become more worldly, it kind of takes away the stress free factor since they're at World War Ii. excetera after season 5. I don't think I'll buy anything past season 5That's why I purchased seasons 1 through 3 because that was the early seasons when everything was much simpler in the story line. If I want to see reality I'll just open my front door. However I love The Waltons no matter what and this season 3 and 1 and 2 are great. So many richly written characters and great acting. The Waltons is my new tranquilizer during the pandemic. It helps so much that's why I bought the DVDs so I can watch it when it's not on TV.If you've never seen it and thought you wouldn't like it...try it because it is a great show.

Packaging and print quality mar an otherwise great show.
The 5 stars is for the program. Take away one star for the packaging, which has all the discs stacked on a spindle. The first disc had somehow come loose in shipping, and was so scratched it looked like Elizabeth and Jim Bob had been playing with it in the tree house. The prints of the episodes look like old syndication prints. The streaming episodes (which just went off Prime) look much better. So I'd take another star away for that.

Lack of information
I found out after I purchase this set and the second season as well that the sub-title was in French only. Hello!!! What good does that do the hard of hearing, ME!! Okay, now that I am over being angry, I am in the process of buying all of the Walton DVD's. We, my wife and I watched these programs with our childre and it was great. The thing I liked about them is that they re-enforced the life lessons that I was trying to teach my youngsters at that time. Watching the Walton's is how I grew up, poor as Church mice but we always found ways to have fun. I guess we got into trouble a bit as well. Good programs all and I recommend them to you, especially if you have youngsters. I find it so refreshing to watch a program that doesn't deem it necessary to use the F-Word every sentence to let us no they are upset. Thank you who ever you are that decided to put these programs out to us on DVD.

Still Wonderful After All These Years!
I used to plan my week around watching The Waltons in the 70's. Watching these again on DVD...without commercials, confirms what I remembered: Season 3 of The Waltons is quality family entertainment. Funny, poignant, excellent performances, historical and educational, touching, memorable...without any of today's crudeness. Own it and enjoy it all over again!

Great Season Like The Others
This is the 2012 Repacked Release with stacked discs. After buying the entire season out of order, I purchased this one and the fourth to complete my collection. The quality of the DVDs was excellent and I had no problems as others have reported. I believe this set was reissued in 2012.The one thing I didn't like was with this season and the fourth: The distributor packaged all the DVDs on top of each other instead of separately like they did with the other seasons. While they are finally one-sided discs, they are now prone to scratching by stacking the discs. Other than that, I give five stars for the series and disc quality, and nothing for the packaging. I wish I could find boxes like those used for earlier seasons to repackage them myself.

and absolutely hate the later years when major cast members jumped ship
What can I say? I'm a fan of the early years of the Waltons, and absolutely hate the later years when major cast members jumped ship. Still mad a Richard Thomas for not coming back for a few episodes in the last season (John Boy, war has changed you!). Anyway, these can be put on the TV any time, in any order, and be enjoyed by the whole family, with the exception of the teenage daughter who thinks they are lame. But, she thinks practically everything is lame, so her opinion her is probably also lame. PS. I have season 1 & 2 also, and enjoy them every bit as much.

Great Show but Not Great Quality Copies
I love the show and have watched all the discs that work. Unfortunately, my Season Three disc #2 doesn't even play. In several other discs there are a lot of "frozen" sections that you just have to sit through until it restarts. The quality of these discs is not what I expected. Because I buy them months ahead of watching (substitute for TV), I don't know if this disc can be replaced. If you love the show and quality is not your ultimate reason for purchasing, you will enjoy this set.

The Wonderful Waltons Series
I love the Waltons. I grew up whilst watching this series on the tv every weekend for a number of years. Week after week I was able to follow the story lines and watch the children grow from youngsters to adults with their own families. I ordered this item as part of my quest to order further sets and build up the collection. It's an ideal series to watch on the dark winter nights when it is cold outside and cosy indoors. It is a heart warming experience.

THE FAMILY ON WALTONS MOUNTAIN
DURING THE SEVENTIES, I WATCHED THE WALTONS EVERY WEEK AND REALLY ENJOYED WATCHING THEIR SEVEN CHILDREN GROWING UP BEFORE OUR EYES! TO US IN ENGLAND, UK, WE SAW THAT FAMILY AS AN EXAMPLE OF HOW TO BRING YOUR CHILDREN UP THE RIGHT WAY.EVEN TODAY, I STILL LOVE TO WATCH THEM, FROM THE SWEET GRANDPARENTS AND HARD-WORKING PARENTS (RALPH WAITE OOZES SEX APPEAL), RIGHT DOWN TO JOHN BOY WHO SPENDS HOURS WRITING ABOUT THE FAMILY AND HELPING WITH CHORES, AND FIXING THINGS FOR FAMILY AND NEIGHBOURS TOO. MY ELDEST SON USED TO DISAPPEAR WHEN I ASKED HIM TO HELP, SO, FOR MANY YEARS, MY PHILOSOPHY WAS: IF YOU WANT ANYTHING DOING, DO IT YOURSELF !

A trip back to my childhood
As a youngster growing up I was roughly the same age as the Waltons youngest child, Elizabeth. I can remember watching the Waltons and identifying with many of the things the family were going through. Having watched the series again from Season 1 i am touched by its gentleness and innocence. A trip down memory lane that is thoroughly enjoyable. I would recommend this product
