‘Efficacy in stabilizing weight in the long term’
Erik Smith is a prolific writer of self-help books. Some of his many publications include ENLIGHTENED RUNNING, FORAGING, STRESS MANAGEMENT, CARBOHYDRATE CYCLING FOR WOMEN, NATURAL TESTOSTERONE BOOSTERS FOR MEN, HIGH FIBER FOODS, GRATITUDE JOURNAL, GREEN SMOOTHIES, TEA CLEANSES, MEDITATION FOR BEGINNERS, LIFE COACHING - and more. Now he instructs on the merits of the DUKAN DIET.Erik sets the tone of his warmly shared information in his Introduction: ‘As we all know, there are tons of dieting strategies out there these days and proponents of each proclaim that theirs is the most effective. While many of those diet regimens can help you shed those excess pounds, only a few can help you maintain your weight for life. The Dukan diet, dubbed as “the French solution to perpetual weight loss,” will restructure your eating habits and with the goal of enabling you to maintain your weight for life without having to starve yourself. The Dukan diet essentially consists of four phases— attack, cruise, consolidation and stabilization— to provide a more comprehensive approach not only to weight loss but to weight maintenance as well. This book will guide you through each phase and give you useful tips and information to help you achieve your weight loss goals.’Since many have not been introduced to what the Dukan Diet is, Erik defines it for us – ‘The Dukan diet is a protein-based diet plan designed by French nutritionist and dietitian, Pierre Dukan. It is primarily intended as a rapid weight loss program that involves no counting of calories or feelings of hunger. However, your food choices are restricted to 100 natural foods — of which 68 come from animal sources and 32 are plant-based. This means you can eat as much as you want, provided you stick to the list of 100 allowed foods. The Promise - If you follow the rules of the Dukan diet, you could lose up to 10 pounds within one week and 2-4 pounds for each of the succeeding weeks until you reach your weight loss goal— all without utterly depriving yourself of food. If you continue to follow the diet rules up to the last phase, you will never gain those lost pounds back. The Theory - The main focus of the Dukan diet is protein, which has low calorie content (only 4 calories per gram) compared to high-carb or high-fat foods. Protein also leaves a “satiating” effect so dieters tend to eat much less. And since the diet limits your consumption of carbs (the body’s most preferred source of energy), your body is forced to burn fat stores as an alternative fuel, making you lose weight much quicker.‘He explains the four phases very carefully, allowing for room to understand the concept of the diet and then offers 15 simple Dukan Diet recipes. His approach is conscientious and informative, but the reader should read all of this information in the book so that the results of adhering to the diet pay off.As with all of Erik’s books, this book is brief but covers the details of his concept – and the aspect that makes his books readable and useful is the innate honesty and simplicity of this presentation. A nice introduction to a worthy sideline! Grady Harp, March 17
