Her situation takes a bizarre turn one night while on duty when she helps a mysterious male victim at the scene of a brutal traffic accident, where the victim's wife and his pre-school son have both been killed in the car he was driving, which was hit head on out of nowhere by a semi. Unaccountably, he blames himself for this twist of fate. Personally, I don't quite buy into J-Lo as a cop but the movie rises above my reservations. And, after all, she is one tough Puerto Rican who seems to excel in both blue collar and princess roles, although she seems to be playing herself more than acting. However, she proved me wrong here. Then fate reconnects the victim and J-Lo in another sudden and deadly twist.Soon, They find themselves drawn to each other, being troubled souls looking for answers in their confusing lives. They enter into a very unique relationship. This is a film about redemption more than anything else. Redemption as it relates to guilt and death and forgiveness. And it's also about a different kind of love that evolves out of torn souls who discover they share much more than each other's emotional pain, more so than typical romantic entanglements. The film ends on a positive and realistic note and avoids Hollywood pretense. Just like all redemption, however, a soul must be willing to embrace it and sometimes that's not always the case with those around us, especially family members. I had seen this movie before and just wanted to have a copy of it so I could watch it again and it arrived quickly and was received in great condition. I’m very happy with my purchase!

After "catching" the last half-hour or so of this film on television a few weeks ago I picked up the DVD -- I love weepy stories with happy endings. Within 30 seconds of the opening titles, I was completely surprised and riveted by Angel Eyes. Characters, story, it all worked for me. I won't even try to find fault, the film felt "personal."Jennifer Lopez is credible as Sharon Pogue, well-liked, a tough, impatient cop with a relentless sense of right and wrong. She is quick to reject anyone trying to get too close, yet her bravado fades when she is alone at night. Her baggage is her estrangement from family. Of course she would fall for the strange, gentle man who pursues her. (I came upon Ms. Lopez and crew filming a music video near my office a few years ago -- she was great to watch.)James Caviezel's portrayal of Catch is, for me, the personification of grief. What happened to this guy, this artistic, loving man, would not be easily gotten over. I once lost someone whom I could not afford to lose, and all I could do for that person was grieve completely then decide to go on living. I recognized such grief in watching Caviezel, with his detachment and his shuffling walk. By the way, my theory about his name, "Catch," is that the last thing he heard before impact was his son's voice calling "Daddy, catch!" then playfully throwing a toy that went uncaught.Sonia Braga stands out as Sharon's mother, the faithful wife of a hard man. Shirley Knight shines as Catch's mother-in-law, who hopes he can "see the love in it" in spite of himself as she reaches out to him. Terrence Howard, as Sharon's partner, brought life to his character with humor and affection. Kari Matchett, as Catch's neighbor Candace, cracked me up with her venomous, one-sided telephone conversation. And wasn't Sharon's boring date here played by nasty old Theron (Dominic West) from this year's 300? I couldn't find the character or his name listed in the credits. The soundtrack, by Marco Beltrami and various artists, is good support, reminiscent in places of minimalist John Adams, other times sounding like a broken toy.There are special features: Luis Mandoki's droll commentary is very entertaining. In it, he describes Jennifer Lopez's ease in performing the fence-jumping stunt that the stuntwoman wasn't able to pull off. That being the case, I don't see any reason why she couldn't restrain a bad guy.Interestingly, this movie is not coy or overly manipulative. It is what it is - a love story about two hurt people who decide to risk loving each other, to start from scratch, and choose to live. It is not Sixth Sense. While there are dead people, there are no ghosts. Catch it!

Why was this not a success at the box office? What a marvelous, intelligent, thoughtful, character-driven, sweet, movie! And how great it was to see Jennifer Lopez, not on the cover of a magazine, just cutting through all the nonsense with some excellent, meat and potatoes acting! I'm only not giving the movie 5 stars because I had some problems with the very end of the movie -- I won't say what happens but I would have preferred something a bit more subtle. That said, it's still a wonderful movie. They don't make many movies like this these days. Rent or buy it -- it's great stuff.

Love this movie sad and happy

This is a great movie with J Lo as a very caring police officer whose kindness we see at the very beginning as she is fighting for someone's life; whose face you don't see. Later you see Jim Caveivizal as a quiet, gentle man who drifts through the streets looking slightly disheveled. We do not know as the audience who this man is as he wanders the streets spotting every problem and trying to intervene each time. At one point, as we later see is his apartment, he is walking down to said apt and finds the keys hanging outside the door of a woman who is home and screaming into the phone. He knocks only to tell her that the keys are hanging in the door. During one walk around the neighborhood, he spots J Lo, the character sitting having a drink with the boys. This odd man stops dead in his tracks and stares into the woman's face who he has obviously seen before. The rest of the story slowly unfolds into a beautiful, sad, drama and love story.. It's a movie well worth watching;

Eigentlich bin ich nicht so der Fan von Love-Storys, aber ich bin ein großer Fan von Jim Caviezel. Und da Jennifer Lopez ihn sogar ausdrücklich als 2. Hauptdarsteller haben wollte, war ich nun doch neugierig, wie die beiden das Thema umgesetzt haben.Um ehrlich zu sein, Jennifer Lopez ist nicht grade das, was man meine Lieblingsschauspielerin nennt, aber bei Angel Eyes muß ich ihr "Abbitte" tun. Sie spielt sehr gut, absolut überzeugend.Kurz zur Story:J.Lo hat vor einiger Zeit Jim Caviezel aka Catch aus einem Auto gerettet, welches in einen Verkehrsunfall geraten war. Dabei sind sowohl Catchs Frau als auch sein Sohn ums Leben bekommen. Hieraus resultiert eine Amnesie und ein Trauma, welches er ohne Hilfe nicht verarbeiten kann.Es soll so sein, daß Catch J.Lo, die eine toughe Polizistin spielt, aus einer lebensbedrohlichen Lage rettet. Und von da an nimmt die Love-Story behutsam ihren Lauf.Wohlgemerkt, ich mag das eigentlich nicht so, aber sowohl J.Lo als auch Jim Caviezel sind in ihren Rollen absolut überzeugend. Es geht hier nicht Knall auf Fall in die Kiste, sondern man nähert sich langsam, ganz langsam an. Zwischendurch entfernen sich die beiden auch wieder voneinander, als nämlich Catch merkt, daß J.Lo in seinen Unterlagen wühlt und ihn diesbezüglich zur Rede stellt. Da wird er von einem Moment auf den anderen sehr unnahbar, wunderbar über seine Augen transportiert.Dennoch können die beiden nicht voneinander lassen, der Kontakt wird immer wieder aufs Neue hergestellt. Und das geschieht so sanft, so zärtlich und zurückhaltend, daß man regelrecht in die Story hineingezogen wird.Aber es ist nicht nur Catch, der mit seiner Vergangenheit zu kämpfen hat, auch J.Lo hat Probleme, und zwar mit ihrer Familie, speziell mit ihrem Vater. Sie hat ihn seinerzeit verhaftet, weil er ihre Mutter wiederholt geschlagen hat. Das Verhältnis der beiden kann man also durchaus als zerrüttet bezeichnen.Bei einer gemeinsamen Familienfeier wird zwar kein Durchbruch erzielt, aber J.Lo erzählt eine Geschichte, wo sie ihren Vater noch in guter Erinnerung hat. Auf der anderen Seite hat es Catch geschafft, sich seinem Verlust zu stellen und auf dem Friedhof Abschied von seiner Frau und seinem Sohn zu nehmen.Somit haben beide großen Anteil daran, daß die Verwundungen, die unbewältigten Ängste und der erlittene Verlust beim jeweils anderen geheilt werden.Wenn ich schreibe, daß J.Lo mich durch ihr Schauspiel überzeugt hat, dann will das schon was heißen. Sie geht hier überhaupt nicht als Sexbombe durch, sondern als eine sehr verletzliche und empfindsame Frau, die auf der Suche nach ihrer selbst ist. Catch ist derjenige, der dazu bestimmt ist, das bei ihr zu finden.Im Grunde genommen ist eine überzeugende Love-Story mMn viel schwieriger zu spielen, als wenn man Action im Film hat. Denn die Kamera liegt fast ausschließlich auf den Gesichtern der Akteure, und DAS ist eine Herausforderung für jeden Schauspieler, IMO.Die Liebesgeschichte wird aber zu keinem Zeitpunkt in irgendeiner Form kitschig oder gar unglaubwürdig, ganz im Gegenteil. Durch feine Nuancen in Mimik und im Ausdruck der Augen wurde das sehr überzeugend und bewegend umgesetzt.Eine Klasse für sich ist hier ganz ohne Frage Jim Caviezel. Jennifer Lopez hat ihn nicht ohne Grund handverlesen. Jim Caviezels Augen sind hier ganz besonders zu nennen. Er hat die mit Abstand schönsten und gefühlvollsten Augen von Hollywood, meiner Meinung nach. Und er hat die Fähigkeit, Gefühle nicht nur visuell zu übermitteln, sondern er erreicht durch die Intensität seines Schauspiels - speziell durch seine ausdrucksvollen Augen - den Zuschauer auch auf einer tiefer liegenden Ebene. Und wenn DAS erreicht wird, dann ist der betreffende Charakter - in diesem Falle Catch - perfekt dargestellt.Natürlich muß man sich darauf einlassen können, das ist klar, sonst funktioniert das nicht. MICH hat es jedenfalls erreicht, ich kann mich der Wirkung seiner ausdrucksvollen, tiefblauen und intensiven Augen nicht entziehen.Und, was man ja auch noch beachten muß ist, daß Jim Caviezel Sexszenen aus Liebe und Respekt zu seiner Frau verweigert. Das mußte auch J.Lo "erfahren", denn in diesem Punkt ist J. C. kompromißlos, was ich aber auch gut finde.Dennoch wurden die Liebesszenen trotz dieser Einschränkung sehr überzeugend gespielt, das muß ich schon sagen. Und DAS muß man auch können.Setup:DVD: deutsch und englischUntertitel: deutsch englisch ohneIch bin inzwischen dazu übergegangen, mir grundsätzlich die Filme in der O-Version anzuhören. Zunächst noch mit Hilfe der Untertitel, später dann ohne. Es ist einfach ein anderes Feeling, als wenn man eine synchronisierte Fassung schaut. Manchmal paßt die Stimme des Synchronsprechers auch nicht so gut, und ich bin der Auffassung, daß die Gefühle, die dem Zuschauer übermittelt werden, immer noch am besten und am intensivsten über die Originalstimme wirken können.Wer also einen zärtlichen Liebes Film schauen möchte, der von der Darbietung der beiden Hauptdarsteller getragen wird, dem empfehle ich, zuzuschlagen. Alleine schon wegen der Augen von Jim Caviezel, die sind wirklich etwas ganz Besonderes.

La culpa fue mía, pero decepción total. Creía que, como en otros DVD, en las opciones vendría el español. Pero solo con subtítulos. Debí haberlo investigado.
