Fluke Networks MT-8200-60-KIT IntelliTone Pro 200 Probe and Toner, Multicolor

I have been using a toner for almost 20 years. I got this one a while ago. I choose it because a coworker had one. I read the directions once and I was sold. Then I got one. It has a few major features that make this toner work better than any other toner I have ever used. Read the directions and learn all of the features. It is worth the price in my opinion. It can help you troubleshoot. I use this device in major hospitals, schools, and Government buildings. It is a must have as an IT tech. It fits really well in a traditional tonner bag. Let me describe exactly what I like. It has a traditional analog tonner setting. It has the alligator clips you need. It has the multiple different tones that change when the leads are shorted out!!!! It has a digital toner setting that can be used when the wires are shorted or when it is plugged into a switch!!! It tells you when it is plugged into a switch!! It can be used to test the RJ45 ends/patch cables. It is a simple cable tester and it works great to verify a digital tone. This tester is used in my tool bag. It can do more than two other tools that I have combined. This Fluke item is worth the cost. The extra features really help in the real word.

Great product works perfectly finds the problem every time has never let me down

I've been dealing with telco and network wires for over two decades. My current gigs involve showing up on a site with a network problem and getting it fixed quickly. Mostly retail stuff where the POS or credit card system is down, in other words, they are not making money. I've had the 200 for about 8 months now and it has proven its worth over and over again. I often show up at a site that I've never seen before, and let me tell you, retail installs can be really ugly. Sometimes just finding the switch or router on a site can be a challenge because the staff doesn't have a clue. This probe will find wires in walls but also show you which one in a bundle you're holding in your hand is the one you're looking for (you have to use it to understand.) The connection tester will show you what wires are missing or in the wrong position if you listen to it well, EVEN IF THERE IS ONLY ONE WIRE CONNECTED! This is a complicated but intuitive device, so intuitive that there really isn't much of a manual.. you just have to work with it for a while. Like a rather odd co-worker that is skilled but a bit strange, you'll come to love it. The guys and gals in Everett really understood what us field guys go through and need in a "toner". If you deal with CAT5 or RJ45 wiring on a regular basis, you want this. If you have a job where you show up and have to figure where a wire goes, you NEED this. I've used every toner out there (the blue Fluke beats Progressive to shame) and can do amazing tricks with them. This damn little setup is the best thing that I've ever found. I just wish that they made it 20 years ago.

The toner works fine. The probe is defective(Along with a lot of the current reviews). This seems to be related to a certain batch. It shuts off after 30-60 of being directly on the eternet cable I'm trying to trace. It's suppose to have a cable detected sound. Even when I only have one cable plugged into my switch and press the probe into it, it does not pick it up. After and hour of testing I've gotten the detection sound twice and only for a split second each time. The issue only seems to be the case on digital mode. The power button will start flickering red once it does it's "60 second shutoff" and if I'm pressed up against the Ethernet. It seems to hint to a short or a faulty board. Because the Toner and probe sync together, I have to turn the toner and probe both off to get the probe to turn back on again. You could probably image how annoying this is if you were trying to trace a cable onsite. You plug one end into the toner, walk to the switch and because of how weak the defective the probe is, it shuts off, so you need to walk all the way back over the the toner to reset and "fix" it. The only work around(this is getting returned asap) is to use the probe to have a rough location and plug the endpoint into the probe to see if it's the correct cable.

If you have been using analog toners to try and find ethernet cables, then you know how hard that can be. Often ethernet cable will resist emitting the tone signals, until you touch a conductor with your probe. This tool solves that problem! If you are within 6 inches of the wire, you will start picking up a signal, and it will be easy to find the wire quickly. This tool cuts the job down to a quick task. Normally with analog test sets, I get nearly 0 signal, even when I have the correct wire in hand, if I run the probe along the correct wire, touching it with the probe, the analog signal comes and goes, showing how hard it is to use analog tools for this task. But with this tool, you can use the "digital" mode, and you can even trace the wire through the wall... The difference is like night and day. Something that works! Other digital/RF type probes probably do the same thing, so I don't know that this is the best tool, but it is a wold better than analog sets, and will make your life a LOT easier!

Amazing tool for tracking wires in the walls. I have used the harbor freight version of this toner but it only signals end to end. This tool will let you follow the lines in the walls and ceilings. I was looking for a junction box in my house for the phone lines and cable lines in every room in a 3 story house. I followed the lines and found that they went up above the garage into a space where someone had assembled a huge tv antennae. Craziest thing I've ever seen but at least the mystery of the junction box has been solved.

If you need to trace physical layer network issues then this is the tool for you! The tone for the generator is kind of whimsical and it works in conjunction with the MS-200 line tester as well. Great product really helped me find the right cables to move from switch to switch.
