I love it. The best uke on a budget or not!
I love it. I love it. My first ever uke was a Stagg soprano and I learned the bare minimum on that. My husband kept nicking my Stagg (guitar player interested in uke) so I got him his own Makala soprano (MK-S). I saw a massive difference between my Stagg and his Makala and I then kept nicking his Makala! I researched more about Makala and read rave reviews about them. They're highly recommended as a quality budget uke. They look the part. They look quality and they sound quality. I bought this concert Makala because I wanted something ever so slightly bigger than a soprano. As owners of a soprano Makala and a concert Makala we can tell you they have just a great sound to them. They don't sound 'plinky' as with ukuleles that are thrown together on the cheap. Every last inch of this feels like it's made properly. It has a nice loud sound to it and it isn't covered with paint which can inhibit sound. It's fantastic for the money.

Best ukulele for the price
This is the second ukulele I've purchased, the first being a similarly priced Stagg US10 and I can assure you that while both will work for beginners, the Makala is going to accompany you a lot further on your musical journey (especially if you swap out the original strings for some quality ones). The Makala has solid build quality and, especially considering the price, excellent sound. I found this really important as if you are just starting out there is nothing as encouraging as a well played chord ringing around the room. Ukuleles like this make an ideal present for anyone musically minded as they are reasonably priced yet produce a joyful sound and can give hours of fun. I heartily recommend!!!

Its pretty good
I would say I play the uke a lot, but I'm not professional or anything. I've just moved to the UK and left my old uke in Singapore, so I decided to buy a new one to keep here in case I travel back and forth a lot. It would save me the hassle of bringing 1 ukulele from the UK to Singapore and vice versa. It arrived on time and packaged well, so it wouldn't be damaged! This is one ukulele that needs to be tuned time and time again at the start as it keeps going out of tune, which to me isn't normal for any new ukulele, but many have said it is common, so I was expecting to have to tune it a lot. The uke has a nice finish, wood feels good. However, sometimes the sound tends not to sound like what I'm playing, depending on the force I use to press the strings, and I normally don't have that problem with other ukuleles. However once you've gotten use to how much force to use for whichever chord you play, its nice to play. Sound isn't too bright but isn't too deep, its inbetween! Not too bad a buy, but I was hoping for more. However, its definitely better than expected when buying a ukulele at that price.

Pleasing Ukulele for a low price
As a novice to the world of ukulele playing I was not prepared to spend too much on a ukulele. However I didn't want to go for one of the really budget ukuleles so decided to spend a bit more and get the Kala Makala. Based on the advice a few of the reviews I also bought some Aquila strings to go with it.I found the ukulele had quite a nice clean sound and much preferred it to my friend's Mahalo Ukulele. I also thought the strings weren't too bad; after about 2 weeks they settled down and it no longer needs to be tuned every few minutes. They are also softer and more forgiving on the fingers than the Mahalo strings. I have decided to save the Aquila strings until either a string breaks or until I improve a bit in my playing (whichever comes first).I would definitely recommend this as an entry level ukulele. I love it.

I love this little one!
I love this thing! I am glad that I ordered it from amazon. It came in good time. It showed up in perfect condition - with Aquila strings. This was a lovely bonus as I had expected they would come with those generic black strings. All I had to do was tune it up and it was ready to go! It has a warm tone. After the first few days, it holds a tuning well. This purchase is definitely worth it. Especially for beginners or somebody who has experience with soprano but wants to try out a tenor to see if it's for them. This ukulele will convert you!!

Great little instrument
I bought this as a first uke having played guitar for years. Mainly I was interested in learning how the chords were formed. I was not disappointed in this at all, it gives a great sound and is fun to learn on. I upgraded the strings and it made a huge difference.Surprisingly easy to learn and with a few of the different coloured song books I was playing songs in no time. The action is good as the tone of the instrument, I would be in no hurry to upgrade anytime soon. For the money I found it great value.

Well Worth The Money- excellent quality, appearance and lovely resonant pleasing sound.
I'm so happy with this item that I took the time to given well deserved feedback. I bought it as a gift for my 30 ish sisterExcellent serviceExcellent packaging and speedy deliveryExcellent itemLovely sound even with the stock strings- nice and resonant- you do have to tighten up the gears a little first as expected.Uke is pleasingly compact and despite having a 'deeper' soundbox- is still nice and small. The colour and build are lovely, both in appearance and build quality.A genuinely lovely gift which I imagine would work for more than a beginner. Fab!

a word of caution on this fantastic little instrument
okay, have you been on youtube and seen what this sucker can do? its amazing, it, i am sure, will sound even better when i have fitted the aquila strings to it. It is a credit to its seller victor morris on amazon, great service, speedy delivery, fan-tastic value for money and yet.... i, unlike every review before me that i have seen and much to my own disappointment, realise this is not the instrument for me.After about 10 minutes playing i realise that having this great instrument in my hand is a bit like watching lord of the rings when you see the elves and the humans and think wow how cool, but look the hobbits can do it too on a smaller punchier kick ass fun kind of way, and thats just it.I have this preconception, this mindset, that if i want a serious instrument with lots of frets and a slim neck (my fingers are a bit big for this) then i miss the whole point of why i like playing ukulele, i should buy another six string guitar instead. This one wont fit in a back pack so easy, this one isn't a laugh, it's in fact, quite the grown up, a bit too serious for me. If you value your music ability and want to explore uke's to their next level after the cheap soprano's and the smallish concerts go for it, but if you play ukulele and know that you don't look cool with it, that it's fun to get something out of so little a sized package (no innuendo intended honest), that your sausage like fingers are better suited to chords and picking rather than amazing high fretwork solos then find something shorter with a fatter neck. verdict -great instrument- beware your own fat fingers!

Nice Ukulele, Excellent price..
Overall this is a great little musical instrument..especially for the price. If your thinking about a Ukulele for the first time I would highly recommend this model. I Originally purchased the Kala KA-S (soprano) ukulele, but within a few hours realized that it was just too small for me to comfortably play. If your a full size adult I recommend going with this Concert sized Uk.. You get a larger body, longer neck with slightly wider spaced frets, and I really like the richer sound tone that the larger body gives. The quality is high for this price range ($65). The fit and finish is great, no visible flaws, the finish is good, the glue inside is cleanly done without any mess.. a good sign of quality. The neck is clean and smooth, frets are well finished..nothing sharp..This is the lower cost "Makala" MK-C version of the Kala KA-C (both by Kala).. The difference seems to be (other than $40) is that this Makala version has open tuners (you can see the gears on the back) and white tuner pegs, as opposed to closed, all metal tuners on the Kala version. And this version does not have white banding... But.. if your not worried about the nicer looks of the Kala version, this plays very well and saves you $40.Set up and play-ability on my Uk was good.. no problem with fret buzz or hard to "note" strings.. the string height is just about where it should be.The tone is great, and I've really enjoyed learning to play the Uk over the last few month.. very relaxing to just sit among the trees and strum away...

Great Tenor Uke
I absolutely love my MK-T Tenor ukulele! I also have the Kala MK-S Soprano, MK-C Concert, and MK-B Baritone and love them all. I have had no problems with the action, intonation, and overall construction of these little beauties. They are very reasonably priced and offer the quality of some higher-priced ukes on the market. I have tried several brands, including the more expensive Kala units, and am absolutely satisfied with the Makala by comparison. I highly recommend any of these ukuleles.Update: July 9, 2020 - I have several ukes and so have not used this one on a regular basis; however, I took it out today after it had been in its case, unplayed, for over 1/2 a year, and it's perfectly in tune! How many ukes (expensive or inexpensive) can make that claim? I'm still very impressed with this MK-Tenor.

Beautiful Ukulele, great sound
This ukulele is so much more beautiful in person than I thought it would be!! It sounds gorgeous and the strings are great quality. I researched and researched, and decided I had to have a Kala because they're the best. I play guitar and violin, so I'm musical, but new to the ukulele. I'm so glad I got my new instrument. It's PERFECT!!
