Could i use on a football shirt to whiten the number and mask a colour run?

I doubt it very much. I used it on a cotton polo shirt to try and cover a small mark. It covered it but left a shiny white mark which is really obvious and hence the shirt looks far worse than if I'd done nothing.

Does this dye need to be heated to set or can I just paint it on and leave it to dry? I want to use it on a nylon/polyester body warmer.

Hey. It needs to be heated to be set, you can use an iron for example. Not sure if your synthetics will handle that?
