A Decent Helping Hand
Brilliant bit of admittedly expensive kit.Firstly, whilst it is probably a tad pricey it is very well made and will last a good long time. That does go some way to justifying the outlay.Mostly though it is bloody useful. Carrying boards around is the single biggest pain - sometimes literally - that I do when working in my workshop or when building. Not only can they be awkward but they're heavy too. I once shifted 60 12mm plaster boards one night by myself before I could knock off and by the end I was broken. I used the more conventional board lifters which you use on the bottom. They do help of course but you have to lift the board up to slide it under. With this I pull whatever I'm carrying to one side, fit and lift. Doesn't half save time and my back. Now, clearly it won't make the weight vanish and in the end moving a lot of material is still a ball-ache. However once you get used to using this I personally found it the best way to deal with a bad job.

Makes life easier
Seamlessly allows you to pick up a sheet of plasterboard/mdf/ply. Expensive for what it is, but it works and does what it’s supposed to well.

Not so good
I purchased this based on other reviews, but here is my experience. I was using it to lift 8 by 4 sound sheet plasterboards. These were tapered edged and 12.5mm think, each board weighs 28kg. I found that the gripper would damage the tapered edge when the board was lifted, not all the time (I was moving 54 sheets). Maybe because of the weight of the boards the tapered edge could not support the board.

Materials handling
An extremely useful tool for handling full sheets of materials up to 25mm.18mm ply isn't too bad, providing you can grip the top & bottom, but as soon as you have to manoeuvre it into an awkward position you can come unstuck. This tool makes it simple - clamp it onto a balance point and the weight of the sheet keeps it closed (just don't cock your wrist back, keep it straight). These can also be used to grip e.g. feed sacks, but despite trying it I'm not convinced by the need there. There are cheaper versions, but dire stories of them failing and dropping sheets where they can damage things put me off.If you want *really* cheap, get a loop of rope about 6m long, tuck 2 corners of the sheet into it and reach over the side of the sheet, grabbing both sides of the loop to give a handle. Limited in comparison, but still a useful standby.

it would be better if it gripped the bottom of the board
It does grip a board but you are holding the full weight in an unnatural way,it would be better if it gripped the bottom of the board.

Roughneck, great tool !
Great product and well made, I’ve used it a few times so far and it has certainly saved me a lot af backache and struggling. The only problem I have is it is a pain to keep in my bag due to it’s shape, but this is only because if I leave it in my delivery truck, it WILL grow legs! 😂
