Question 1

How long does each water fill last?

Accepted Answer

For best cooling, the bigger issue is ice cold water more than just the water itself.
The water lasts for many hours before evaporating off.
To have the best cooling from cold water, you probably ought to add a tray or more of ice cubes once every hour to two hours.
Adding ice cubes is better than topping up with cold water.
Then there are the ice packs in the water. These can stay half iced for around two hours or maybe slightly more, if you've put enough ice as well in the water.
So I'd be adding ice cubes every hour and half or so and changing the ice packs every 2 to 2 and a half hours.
(I use my own ice packs to exchange with the two that come with the unit.)

As for all night usage, you can add the coldest tap water or fridge cooled water before you go to bed, and simply top it up not far from the top of the tank with as many ice cubes as you can. Let them melt in during the first few hours of the night, and the unit will be doing ok during the night.

Question 2

How well does it work in a bigger room please?

Accepted Answer

It's ok, but better with the freezer blocks

Question 3

How much sqft / sqm does this cool?

Accepted Answer

It doesn't cool any space in terms of reducing the temperature. That's not how it works. It isn't air conditioning.

It cools the person if you are receiving the cool air from the cooler directly, and it does so very well if you use cold water and a few trays of ice cubes.

But if you are thinking of putting it on, leaving the room and returning - or setting up a room to be cooler by the time you enter it - then this unit isn't for you. For that you'd need an air conditioning unit, which are very expensive, and expensive to run in electricity costs. (Probably more than winter electrical heaters).

This unit only works when you're actually in the wind of the cooler and again it should work well with the right attention.

Question 4

Can you use essential oils in the water tank?

Accepted Answer

Yes. I use tea tree oil and peppermint oil and maritime pine essential oil together, with ice blocks and ice cubes in the water.
I don't think you should use any essential oils which aren't clear (such as cedarwood).
