Why does my transfer speed slow down from 65mb/s to 13mb/s after a few seconds?

I assume you are using Windows. Windows shows the rate at which data is being read from the source file - not the rate it is being written to the destination. So, why does it start really fast and get slower? File copies happen rather like moving things over a conveyor belt. At the sending end is the source file, at the receiving end is the destination file. The conveyor belt is actually a section of the computer's memory. When the file transfer starts, the belt is empty and the hard drive hardware is fast, so the first bit of the source file is read really quickly, but as the belt gets full the rate at which it runs becomes governed by how fast the data coming off the other end can be written to the destination. When the destination is a flash drive, it won't be anything like as fast as a hard drive. Thus, the copy starts fast, but then slows down to the speed of the destination device. So, the copy speed indication given by Windows is showing how much has been read from the source, not how much has yet been written to the destination. If your computer has a large memory capacity (RAM) then many gigabytes of your copying file can be in transit (on the belt if you like) at any given moment. HTH.
