The best evér
I have had mine for years and am still delighted to say that it is a great fire both in design and reliability. My grand daughter moved to a large house recently and I bought her one. She is delighted with the fire, in every way.

Nice big size
Just received it today and had no problems installing it myself. It arrived in the specified time (24 hours), so thank you, Amazon!I had bought an old oak fire surround which is tall, and needed a good sized fire to go with it, and this fits the bill perfectly. Lovely, clearly defined 'quick flames' fire effect (as you'd expect with Optiflame), and I am using a combination of the pebbles and coal together, so it looks like hot burning ash below, with fresh fuel on top, especially when it's just viewed in daylight (ie. fire effect not on).I plan to use it mostly for the fire effect, which is almost totally silent (there IS a very tiny little 'grinding' noise which happens every 3 seconds), rather than for heat, because I have central heating... although it's good to know if I have issues with my boiler, it's there as a back up. (Edited to add: I had a problem with my boiler yesterday... and this kept the house at a comfortable 17.5 degrees celsius... and my house is very open plan, with double height ceilings), so full marks on that.)I'd read the reviews where some people had problems, but I had good luck with my old Dimplex 'Club' "woodstove" lasting for years, so decided to try for Dimplex again. I'm glad I have. One comment I will make is that the flex JUST made it to my power point, it's only about four and a half feet long. I was lucky. There wasn't an inch to spare. Other than that, I think it looks great!

For the reduce price of £149 its fine wouldn't pay more for it though
Bought fire to replace old one that had stopped working. Was surprised to find the Chrome part is plastic, as are the widest parts of the surround. It does look really good and the flame effect is great. It was supplied with bags of pebbles and bags of coal. I expected the coal to be ceramic or something but my black hands made me realise it is actual coal. I then found disposable glove x 1 had been added in the box and a magnet is a small bag saying Dimplex apparently this is for your choice of whether to have it on the fire or not - but this might not be good idea if small children or pets are around. The flame effect can be used without the heater being on. It has two settings 1KW and 2 KW and a thermostat. So if its set and your room is warmer it won't come on. It's noisier than expected which could be annoying if sitting very close but for the price I paid happy with it. You have a slip in the box for your 1 year warranty to be active to phone up or send it off. The leaflet with it is not very good but then there is not much for you to need to know. There is the option of extending the warranty in the box but for the price of it I find this quite expensive - £10 per month or so and options of how many years. I phoned to register it and to query what the magnet was for, the operator was able to look up information so this is worth knowing if you need to look up how to change bulb etc.

A Cosy Living Room Feature
We're pleased with this heater and think it's good value, hence five stars. It comes very well packed, so there's little risk of receiving a battered specimen, and ours was perfect. Once it's been wrestled from the packaging there's no assembly required, you just decide between coal and pebbles to use with the flame effect, pop your choice onto the light box, and plug it in.At first sight the chrome effect surround looks a little cheap, but you very soon become accustomed to it. The Optiflame fire simulation, we used the pebbles rather than the coal, is very good, a cosy and cheering focal point to the living room.Basically this is a tarted-up fan heater, and that's exactly what it sounds like; it is not silent and you may find the fan noise intrusive. However, I cannot imagine it is intended to be anyone's main source of warmth, and certainly in our home we will only use the heating function to supplement the central heating on chillier days. But the warmly-glowing pebbles are a very welcome fireplace feature, just what we wanted.

Looks stunning...this is the one!
Seriously impressed!. Looks stunning, fitted very easily, coals, beautiful flame effect (even the 'proper coals' look stunning with the 'ember glow' effect coming through them from down below. Great price (although a bit peeved that Amazon chose to reduce it further by £15.00 the day we had it delivered but still fantastic value). Our old fire (bought with the housel) looked OK but this takes it to another level. Me & Mrs P closed the curtains, got out the red wine & nearly roasted some marshmallows its that good. Considered the Optymist but read reviews around issues with 'purified water'/ refilling hassles etc...nah this will do nicely. Can't wait for winter, Christmas Dec's & a cosy fire. Nuff said I think!.
