Candelilla wax (also known as candellina wax) is a wax derived from the leaves and stems of the candelilla bush (Euphorbia antisyphilitica) native to northern Mexico and the southwestern United States. It is hard, brittle, yellowish-brown and opaque to translucent with a melting point of 67 to 79 C. It is mainly composed of hydrocarbons (over 50% with chains of 29 to 33 carbon atoms). For its extraction, you boil the leaves with dilute sulphuric acid, scoop the wax off the surface and clean it in several steps.
